A few months back, I was going through the pics in the Photos Section of the Fatal Posporos Yahoogroup. I was looking at Donna's wedding pics, and I was sooo envious of her rockstar wedding!!! It made me want so much to have a wedding just like that: everyone dressed up for the occassion, of course, but the reception would feature a jamming session wherein my friends get to play onstage and unleash their inner rockstar. I'm not sure though if my family would appreciate that, hehehe.

And just last Thursday, at Conspiracy Bar along Visayas Ave., I was watching rockstar kids run around the place, with their mommies and daddies in tow, and my rockstar wedding daydream started progressing into a fullblown rockstar FAMILY reverie! The kids were none other than the Cambio Kids - Kaio Dancel, Veda Zabala, and Atari Marasigan. Real cute bundles of joy, little versions of their cool rocker parents. Sometimes they'd climb up onstage to join their parents who were busy with their own respective instruments, or maybe they'd just quietly sit on the platform and bob their heads to the music. Whatever they did, they were really amusing to watch. One especially cute moment was when Kaio was insisting that he go into the Ladies Room because his mommy was there, and Uncle Ebe had to convince the kid with all his logic that the room was for girls only =P
Kaio also had his turn doing percs as Mommy Kris's band Fatal Posporos reunited onstage for that special night only. Daddy Vin was there to help out set the beat. The best moment, however, was at the end of one song wherein Kaio started licking the tambol (er, what do you call that instrument? hehehe) like a lollipop, making the audience giggle in amusement. Kris only had to say, "Uh, he got that from me..." =)

ADMIT ONE Akustik @ Conspiracy Bar, 10/14/2004
Pamilya palang, ubos na upuan, but it was mighty fine that this gig was open to the public, because it was really a special event for several reasons.
First up, it was the birthday celebration of Mrs. Elynn Gorra, mom of Cambio's frontwoman Kris Gorra-Dancel. May I just mention that she is one cool mom, so very much supportive of the indie scene and its struggling players. She, Kris, and Twisted Halo's Vin Dancel (Kris's husband) are the ones responsible for the indie label Guilty Pleasure Records, which brought us Twisted Halo's EP and Bolo Brigade album, Cambio's Excerpt EP, and soon Imago's Take Two album.
Secondly, it was a fundraiser event for the upcoming celebration of ADMIT ONE's 3rd Anniversary. Yes, ADMIT ONE is turning 3! Now THAT would be one helluva gig for sure!
Thirdly, it was the venue for that one-night-only reunion gig of our favorite grrrl rockers: FATAL POSPOROS!
Twisted Halo opened the show at around 6:30 to a packed and dining Conspiracy Bar. Drummer Monmon Lopez wasn't able to make it, so Raimund Marasigan (sandwich/Cambio)took over the percs for that night. They churned out great acoustic pieces such as "Miron" and "Breakable", but I believe the highlights of their set would be the beautiful "Asan Na?", which they rarely do live, and their cover of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" (apparently Mrs. Gorra was a Beatles fan, so all the bands that night had their own Beatles song to cover).
Cambio featuring Veda Z. and Atari M.
Cambio did a fun set, with a laid back acoustic "DV" and the remarkable "Patlang". I forgot what Beatles song they covered, though (I think it was "Birthday"?). Here you see them with their special back-up vocalists, Veda Zabala and Atari Marasigan, who joined their proud daddies onstage.
A moving sight: Kris, Mrs. Gorra, and Kaio, with Buddy playing guitar for the family
One particular moment I liked during the gig was seeing Kris, her mom, and her son all onstage - a portrait of a happy family, bonding over a beautiful thing called music. It was particularly hard to get the mic back from Kaio, who obviously has inherited some musician genes from his vocalist/guitarist/songwriter parents. Mrs. Gorra and Kris also shared a number, although I wasn't familiar with the song; nevertheless it moved me to see mom and daughter singing wonderfully together.
Sugarfree also played that night, with Ebe describing their lineup as "one-half Sugarfree, one-half..." wherein someone from the audience conveniently finished Ebe's sentence with an enthusiastic "Eraserheads!". With Mitch absent, Ebe and Jal played guitar while Buddy and Raimund helped out with bass and percs, respectively. Another highlight of the night: Sugarfree plays that uber-beautiful song called "Kandila". That song really gets me all senti inside, especially around the part where Ebe soulfully sings "Sorry di kita hinabol, sorry tayo'y malabo..." When the song gets to that part, all I could do is sigh.
The second-to-the-last band to go onstage was Imago, who opened their set with "Taning", currently #1 on the Midnight Countdown (and I'm not surprised with that). They played a couple of other new songs that I could no longer remember. Although I do recall that they played a pretty nice impromptu version of the Beatles' "Two of Us".
And then there were three: Aia, Kris, and Donna of Fatal Posporos
Finally, the most awaited portion of the night - Fatal Posporos takes the stage, together with Fatal sessionist Jason Caballa of Twisted Halo, plus Zach Lucero of Imago helping out with percs. It was really really great to see the Fatal girls together again, dishing out their unforgettably sweet and rockin' hits. I was especially glad when they played one of my favorite tracks from Paper View - "Pudgy", which had Donna doing vocals. I wasn't able to have any of them sign my CD inlay, but I was satisfied anyway just seeing them play again, and I bet so was every other eager fan in Conspiracy that night.
With all the kids running around, the bands performing great acoustic sets, and the familial atmosphere that just set the bar in the mood, it was definitely a gig to remember.

Natatandaan mo pa ba?
Fatal Posporos - Natatandaan mo pa ba...?
Annette, Donna, Kris, and Aia smokin' hot at the 2nd leg of ADMIT ONE's Second Anniversary Celebration (November 22, 2003) at Rock Radio Cafe in Alabang
It's been almost a year since I saw the Fatal ladies in action. Little did I know that the shot above was one of the last Fatal Posporos pics I would be taking...at least with the whole band intact, all four ferocious rocker chicks on one stage, spewing out one smashing song after another.
In February of this year, Fatal Posporos held their farewell gig, "Break-Break" at Millenia. Not long after, drummer Annette Ortiz bid farewell not only to the local music scene but to the entire country, as she made her way to the other side of the planet. This didn't stop her, nor the other Fatal ladies, from doing what she does best: making music! Annette would eventually join the Christian alterna-rock outfit called Airlia, led by fellow Pinay Angelica Lei Bautista (formerly of Prettier Than Pink). Kris Dancel and the rest of Cambio are currently enjoying the commercial success of their first full-length album, "Derby Light". Donna Macalino plays bass for Musings of a Cigarette Smoking Man. And Aia de Leon and the rest of Imago are busy preparing for the launch of their much-awaited sophomore effort, "Take Two", to be released under the indie label Guilty Pleasure Records.
And that's the way the story goes...or so everyone thought!
Tonight, 14 October 2004, FP fans are in for a great treat as 3/4 of this kick-ass girl band (excuse the term) will get together for a one-night-only reunion gig at the ADMIT ONE Fundraising Event (5-9 pm only!) at Conspiracy Bar along Visayas Avenue! And, yes, I will be there to catch that gig!!! Finally, I could have my Paper View album - which I obtained 5 years after it was released and 5 months after the breakup - signed, although Annette's scribbles won't be part of those autographs.
I will definitely be there, even if it kinda breaks my heart that I had to choose between this free-admission ADMIT ONE gig and an exclusive invites-only gig to be held the next day.
I will definitely be there, even if my parents would rather not allow me because they naturally fear for my safety if they know Andrew's not going with me (but of course I'm going tonight with their blessing).
And, of course, I will definitely take pictures, even if my camera is starting to conk out on me (huhuhu!!!). I just hope My Precious doesn't totally give up on me tonight. Masakit ata sa bulsa magpa-repair ng Canon digicam, right? :(
One thing though...it's that curfew word again. I do hope the 5-9pm thing is for real, because for sure FP will be the last to play, and I really oughta get my arse out of QC by 9ish. Iiyak talaga ako pag di ko sila naabutan...excited pa naman ako!
Abangan ang susunod na kabanata...

Seeing that pic also reminds me how much I dearly miss Rock Radio Cafe, home to the rockers of the Southern Metro...
Word has it that the station has resumed/will soon resume broadcast. I'll never know for sure though, because RJ says it's "Hello Manila" this time, so for all those in the University Belt area, congrats on your darn luck! Rock Radio rules, man, and it will surely be missed by us Southern people.
