Habemus papam - Benedict XVI

All my life, the pope's name has been John Paul II.

Pope Benedict XVI...that'll take some getting used to.

- - - - -

Parang bigla ako ulit nalungkot na wala na nga talaga si Pope John Paul II. Somehow, there's something in him that makes people feel so deeply for him.

Like when he visited the Philippines in 1995. I was frickin crying just watching his departure on local TV. And then when I learned of his grave illness, I became anxious and kept praying that God would just take care of him and watch over him.

Si Pope John Paul kasi napaka-amo ng mukha. And (for me, at least) he projects the image of a saintly man. I am definitely in awe of his persona.

- - - - -

Di ko man siya nakita up close nung pagbisita niya dito nung 1995, I still saw him from a distance as his popemobile was rerouted through Villamor Air Base to avoid the congested roads on the way to the airport.

My sis and I were watching the coverage of his departure when it was mentioned that he was passing through Villamor instead of the previously announced route. So tumakbo kami palabas, and as we were running down the street, the popemobile passed by and we were frantically waving our hands, hoping that the Pope would see our farewell to him. He was waving in the direction of our street as his vehicle sped by :)

- - - - -

May he rest in peace. Buti pa siya, katabi na niya best friend niya sa langit. Sana he'll continue to pray for us nang magkita-kita tayo lahat sa itaas pagdating ng panahon.

- - - - -

As for Pope Benedict XVI, let's all pray that he may fulfill his duties as Peter's successor. Mabigat na responsibilidad iyon. Sana'y kayanin niya, at sana'y patuloy siyang gabayan ng Diyos.

I feel stupid and contagious

Uy, April na nga pala. It's been 11 years since a man called Kurt Cobain decided to burnout rather than fade away...

1994. I was just discovering this thing called rock and roll. Ako po noon ay batang 96.3 WRock hehehe. And then one time I heard this noisy song on Campus Radio WLSFM (uy, that was the IN station back then!) and said to myself, "Hey, that's a nice song despite the noise..." Smells Like Teen Spirit pala yun.

Too bad I discovered Nirvana too late. Patay na si Kurt nung ako'y nakinig sa mga kanta niya. Nonetheless, he struck a chord. And he continues to rock years after he said goodbye.

Kurt Donald Cobain was 27. I was 13. He ended his life, I was just beginning mine. But the power of his music lives on, and I am grateful for that. Astig ka Kurt. Salamat sa Nirvana.

Ice is back with a brand new invention!

Read my previous post about Admit One Hit Wonders before you read this. Wala lang, hehehe.

September 2004: My very first blog entry was about Admit One (what else). And the MOMENT of that night was when
band members switched duties for a song. It was a *BLAST*.

Fast forward to April 2005: Still, I am blogging about Admit One. And guess who switched duties for a song this time?

Ok, nothing new here...

Manong Vin on drums? (Dito palang nagulat nako eh.)
Therefore...?!

The MOMENT for last night's Admit One Hit Wonders was when Twisted Halo (yep, that band that dishes out the most intense songs for the night - intense, as in matindi sa damdamin) covered Vanilla Ice's "Ice Ice Baby", with none other than Monmon on vocals! And just like Mitch did a song and dance number for Telepono back in September, Mon topped that by rapping and dancing the Running Man and Roger Rabbit*! OMG. It was intensely funny! Sabi nga ni Manong Vin, halos di na siya makapalo nang tama nung makita niyang mag-Running Man si Monmon! LOL!
*These dance steps were the hottest craze back in 1990. Again, an indication of my age - I friggin' know this stuff! :P

I was able to film a stretch of Monmon's number with
My Precious, and each time I playback the video, sobrang laugh trip talaga when Monmon gets into the groove with those darn dance steps.

After that performance, the crowd was cheering Monmon's name, hehehe. Panalo talaga :P

Admit One Hit Wonders

Oh yeah, another funtastic Admit One gig to blog about :P Looong post ahead...

Sorta random thoughts about last night:

+ Iba na pala set-up ng Saguijo. The band plays near the door na. Kakapanibago because the lights are situated at the bar, so medyo di ganun kaganda lighting sa banda. And of course sa pasok-labas ng tao, la kang choice kundi dumaan sa harap ng banda to get to the bar. And there's this wooden harang at the entrance. Soundproofing daw hehehe.

+ Last night seemed to be Cambio shirt night. Mga naaalala kong naka-Cambio shirt: Vin, Kris, Raimund, Jal, Trici, Mitch. As for me, I totally forgot to buy one. I already have the crown design, pero gusto ko yung suot ni Kris so I want another Cambio shirt hehehe.

The Cambio shirt design that I want.

Check out Kris's guitar strap with her cutie little boy.

+ The gig was covered by OPM.ph. And speaking of Kris, inubos talaga siya nung isang OPM.ph photographer! As in *Click* *Click* *Click* sobrang tuloy-tuloy kuha niya kay Kris while Cambio was playing :P

+ It was great seeing the bands and listers again! Thanks to Klara and Leigh for offering me a seat at their table :) Kaso knowing me, I usually go in and out and around the place to take pics and stuff hehehe. Nice seeing the Revo people too - Cris, Nato, Jmi, Juana. Sino pa ba?

+ Astig, nakausap ko si Mike D ng sandwich. Was finally able to buy a sandwich shirt. At kagabi ko lang nalaman na Manresa* boys pala yung Teeth. And speaking of another Manresa boy - Wolfmann was there too!
*Manresa - this school in BF Homes, Paranaque where I attended Prep and Grade One. One famous alumna is Carmina Villaroel, hehehe.

+ Para sa mga fans ni Diego Mapa (ehem):

Hehehe, Diego and I were introduced to each other by Brutal Grace at Wolfmann's album launch a year ago, so I highly doubt he remembers me. But anyway, nagkatabi kami sa bar, and remembering some special requests for a Diego pic, I whipped out my camera, smiled at him, and said, "Hi, can I take your picture?" Hahaha, kapalmuks nalang! And it was great 'cause he was kind and game enough for the pic :P

+ Now why was the night called Admit One Hit Wonders? That's because each band had to cover a song by some one-hit-wonder artist. Cambio did "Boys Do Fall In Love" (tama ba yung na-search ko? Beegees 'tong song na 'to?!), The Happymeals did "Ako'y Sa Iyo, Ika'y Sa Akin" by Iaxe (remade by some local boy group), Sugarfree did "There She Goes" by The La's (remade by Sixpence None The Richer), and sandwich did "Sikat Na Si Pedro" by the Philippine Violators.

Damn, I'm old - I know those songs! Well, except prolly for Sikat Na Si Pedro - I have an mp3 of that but I haven't really listened to it yet hehehe.

+ Teka, what did Twisted Halo cover...? Oh, THAT is a moment worthy of its own blog entry ;)

+ Pics from last night can be viewed here. Sorry I only have ONE sandwich shot, my bro arrived to pick me up na eh, hehehe.

+ My favorite shots for the night: the Dancel brothers (yet again)

Haberdi Ches!

Man, I miss college.

I miss seeing my friends on a daily basis. Hanging out at the CASAA steps (Beta Carotene, man!), or the picnics at the track oval, with matching jamming pa. Ansaya.

Now everyone's busy with work and school. Barkada days are sooo hard to organize. So when one is celebrating her/his birthday, it's a MUST that we get together, 'cause that's the only time we get to see each other.

Cheska's birthday get-together at Tahanan last April 9 was one great opportunity to be with friends again. Not to mention the food was deeelish (kudos to Ches's mom!). Sayang lang di nagkasabay-sabay ang people (yet again, because of work), at wala yung usual boys na come-one-come-all kung dumalo.

Anyway, it was great being with you guys. Kelan na naman kaya ang next barkada day natin? :P

Panaghoy sa Subic, the Ilang-Ilang '07 outing!

Hmmm, long time no post! So to make up for lost blogtime, I'ma post 3 entries tonight hehehe (this morning na nga eh). To start off the blogging-spree...

Panaghoy sa Subic: Outing 2005
Starring Ilang-Ilang '07, with the special participation of Ma'am Dacs (thaaat's meee!), Sir Segs, and Sir Mardan!

I love being a working person, because now my parents allow me to go on gimiks they usually wouldn't let me join. The UPZS Semender 2004 was the first of them. Now this. I got to go to Subic with my Homeroom class! Thanks very much to the generosity of Mrs. Jet Chan and her daughter Kat.

Ansaya kasama nung Ilang-Ilang folks! Dagdag pa yung company ni Sir Mardan and Sir Segs (thanks for coming guys!). And of course sobrang saya nung pictorial sessions! Hahaha!

Here are some of the fun shots we had:

Nyahaha korni ni Maca, di tumalon :P

Habang naghihintay ng jetski: mourning Jonas daw

Part of the jetski pictorial session: Jerome as roadkill

Pool shot

Oi Ria, sinabi nang serious shot eh...

Ok, bawi si Ria. This time siya lang ang serious hahaha!

For the rest of the zany pics, check em out here.

Pero eto talaga yung panalo shot (a lechon manok stall we saw in Layac, Bataan):
