Echoes of Dreams: A concert to help the victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng
Greetings of Peace!
Thank you for taking time to read this letter.Through this letter, we wish to inform you that we are staging a benefit concert entitled “Echoes of Dreams” on November 30, 7 to 9p.m, at the Araneta Coliseum. This concert will help us raise the much-needed funds and enable us to continue our projects to benefit underprivileged children and those who were heavily devastated by typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng.
“Echoes of Dreams” will be participated by our very own world-class performer—Ms. Lea Salonga together with world-class musicians—the Manila Symphony Orchestra, to be conducted by Maestro Arturo Molina. But the main highlight of the show will be the performances of the talented artists from our partner organizations. We’ll have Tum Tum Mendoza—a world-renowned Marimba player who has Autism, together with the ILLC Kids, the Black Theater Group of the SELF Therapeutic Community, the Payatas Kids of the Interact Club of Rotary Makati-Rockwell and the Center for Arts Ensemble. We will also set a Guinness World Record for the largest children’s choir performing in a live concert to be performed by Fusion Excel International’s Hope for Children Choir as coordinated by the Friends of the Divine Mercy.
Special celebrity guests will join like,Classical Artists—Pinky Marquez and Allan Dale, Pop Belter--Frenchy Dy, New Pop Sensation—Myrus, Vocal Groups--The Tux andAngelos, songwriter and hit-maker—Top Suzara, Pop-Rock Artist—Mike Chan, Alternative Band—Peryodiko, International Jazz Artist—Stella Ignacio, Blind Child Singer—Fatima Soriano, Matinee Idols—Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera and a lot more surprise guests. Hosting the event is Ms. Cory Quirino. (Please check the poster above for more information)
“Echoes of Dreams” is the most suitable title for our benefit concert because the marginalized sectors we represent are those whose voices have been shut by their disabilities, whose thoughts cannot be articulated, and whose dreams were stolen by poverty, physical, emotional and sexual abuse. The show is being organized by the Center for Arts Foundation, Inc. (CAFI), in cooperation with the Autism Society Philippines (ASP), the Self Enhancement for Life Foundation (SELF), the Immaculate Heart in Memoriam (IHM), the Independent Living Learning Center (ILLC), the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND), Yes Pinoy Foundation, and the Rotary Club of Makati-Rockwell. These organizations have joined forces to make a strong impact in the society by advocating equality and support for the disabled, the reformed, the abused, and the helpless children.
In this regard, we would like to request for your invaluable support by watching the event.Tickets are very very affordable. Please help us promote the show as well and make November 30 your "Official Charity Day".Please log on to our website for more information, just click http://echoesofdreams.org/
Please email back for ticket reservations. Or buy your tickets at all Ticketnet Outlets in all SM Department Stores or at the Araneta Coliseum Box Office, or call 911-5555.
Remember, you are not only going to be entertained by our country's best artists but you will also be helping so many underprivileged children.
Thank you in advance for your overwhelming support to this worthwhile and noble endeavor.
Sincerely,
Jerome Vinarao

Peryodiko Album Recording FINALLY! - a behind-the-scenes blog by Robin Rivera
I know ZILCH about the technical aspect of music. I'm just a music fan who likes listening to the stories musicians tell so well. But tonight, as I went through all the entries of Robin Rivera's blog about his work as producer of Peryodiko's debut album, it made me appreciate all the blood, sweat, and tears that go into making an album (as well as refreshed my memory of why music piracy SUCKS!).
If I remember correctly, I was aiming for a Robin Rivera Hum class back in my UP days, all for the simple reason that he produced the Eheads :P But now, more than just knowing him as the one who gave us the Heads, I have a more profound respect for the man.
Like the musicians he coaches, Sir Robin (sige, makiki-"sir" ako, hehe) is a wonderful storyteller. He isn't shy about the thoughts that roam inside his head, and he lets them out so eloquently. Reading about what he believed and hoped about the local music industry made me want to clone him and put more Robin Riveras in studios and record label offices. Also, reading about how he shaped Peryodiko - the album and the band - made me respect and appreciate the band and their music so much more than I already did.
This blog is a must read. In Mel Gibson's words in "The Patriot", "I've just been through the mind of a genius."

"Vin said it is a very easy album to listen to, and I agree. It never hits you over the head with a sledgehammer to get attention. Its like the ocean which ebbs and flows with some kind of rhythm, each wave having a unique way of advancing and receding. It unfolds with the logic of a mathematical equation, the creativity of a chord progression, and the organic timelessness as ocean waves."

Disappearing for a while
Off to school in a few minutes. Field biology (actual field work) commences today. We're off to Hundred Islands in Pangasinan today, then Bolinao, also in Pangasinan, by Friday, then Subic by May. I hope we have fun with this batch of students :)
In the meantime, photodump (mightydacs98.multiply.com, elenadacs.multiply.com) muna bago mawala ng dalawang linggo. Hehehe.
Yesterday was the longest day ever. But it was fun. I got to watch Peryodiko at SM Sucat! :) At sa wakas may album na rin ako. Ang gandaaa! I hope they get to distribute nationally soon. Buti nalang mababaon ko siya sa field bio, else it'll be two more weeks without hearing them Peryodiko songs.
So there. Hope I have lots of good kwento (and the time to blog about it!) after field bio. See ya folks in two weeks!

Peryodiko Album Launch and Bar Tour
From Sammy Samaniego, Peryodiko's manager:
Evolving from that need to quantify life comes Vin Dancel, Simon Tan , Kakoy Legaspi, and Abe Billano, collectively known as Peryodiko.
Like the band’s namesake, Peryodiko takes upon itself to observe the things that come and go. It tasks itself with the witnessing of truths and communicating of lessons that can be learned from our experiences. The difference is Dancel, and company, infuses the written word of paper journals with the soul and feel that only good music can bring.
Peryodiko is moving and melodic with the lightness of a touch that is as alternative as it is sensibly musical. Vin Dancel, lead vocalist and primary song writer, hails from the defunct Twisted Halo. Letting go of the angst of his former band, Dancel has morphed from being a maker of statements, to a teller of stories. He lends a gentler tone to profound messages and tales, with melodies reminiscent of U2, The Beatles, and Filipino greats like Joey Ayala, Apo Hiking Society, Yano, and The Eraserheads. And though these influences clearly mark their legacy in his compositions, Dancel definitively writes music that is uniquely his own.
Lending articulation to Peryodiko’s song writing prowess is respected Jazz bassist, Simon Tan as the band’s musical director. Adding flare and flavor into the mix is the gutsy lead guitar of Kakoy Legaspi, previously a member of Rivermaya and later on, Barbie’s Cradle. Former drummer of Dong Abay and Twisted Halo, Abe Billano provides impeccable beat-keeping and youthful energy to this formidable rhythm section.
Now, more than ever, this band is certainly on track and raring to take on the local scene with their self-titled and independently produced debut album. Peryodiko, the album contains 11 OPM tracks that can easily get anyone into the groove with the comfortable melodies of each song. Peryodiko is distinct. It derives its music from the things that mold us in our daily life. There is a fusion of intellect and good music at play with this group. The combination is then grounded to life, to which we can all relate. That is Peryodiko, in its conception and its reality.
On March 6, 2009, 8:00PM at the Eastwood City Central Plaza, Peryodiko launches its self-titled debut album with special guest performance by Nicole & Carlo and hosted by Boboy Garrovillo. After which, the band is set for an album bar tour within Metro Manila.

Album in the making: Peryodiko starts recording
Medyo mahaba na naisulat ko tas nagclick ako ng search. Ayun, nawala. *grumble grumble*
Anyways, as I tried to say a while ago...
The names alone of the people involved in this project will make anyone expect great things from this band's debut album: Vin Dancel on vocals/guitar, Kakoy Legaspi on guitar, Simon Tan on bass, Abe Billano on drums - all well-respected musicans of the local scene. Add to that the identity of their producer: Robin Rivera (yes, THE Robin Rivera who brought to us those legendary Eraserheads albums). Let's also bring the recording studio into the picture: Shinji Tanaka's Sound Creation Studio (Cambio, Imago, Pedicab, Sandwich, etc).
But in the end, actually, it really is just all about the music. And I assure you that what you will hear will be something that you would like, not just because it sounds nice, but also because it feels nice. I guess that would be the Dancel trademark - making music that feeds the soul.
So in the meantime, while waiting for the album, have a taste of things to come:
- Peryodiko demos at Vin's Multiply
- Updates on the album from producer Robin Rivera
- Discuss Peryodiko at Yahoogroups.com
- Discuss Peryodiko at Peyups.com
