Fave MJ moves

I'm not a fan of dance, but I do love MJ's moves.

Here are my top 7 favorite Michael Jackson moves. Most of them are from the Dangerous era, because that's when I really got to know and love MJ's music.

7. Will You Be There (Music Video, 1993)
This is one of my top 5 MJ songs. I love the sign-language moves of the backup singers in the video, as well as MJ's dance during the instrumental part.

6. Black or White (Music Video, 1991)
I'm not actually fond of the song, but I love the video because of how MJ infused his own style into different cultural dances.

5. Remember the Time (Music Video, 1992)
Iman is so beautiful! And the dance scene with all the Egyptian moves was cool.

4. Blood on the Dance Floor (Music Video, 1997)
There are so many things I love about this video: the red suit, the braided ponytail, Susie and the lamp, Mike and the maracas, Susie and Mike doing the salsa.

3. Billie Jean (Live - 30th Anniversary, 2001)
The moonwalk is MJ's trademark move. It may not be an original, but he certainly made it HIS. This, for me, is his best performance of Billie Jean.

2. Smooth Criminal (Live - Dangerous Tour, 1992-1993)
This one's from his Dangerous tour. Love the song. Love the suit. Love the intro. Love the theatrics. Love the moves.

1. Dangerous (Live)
I have no idea where this performance is from. I just discovered it on YouTube after Mike died. In the weeks after his death, I probably watched that video 50 times. It's the hottest dance of MJ ever.

Fave Song: "Still Fighting It" by Ben Folds

Only truly appreciated this song when Sugarfree performed it during their Music Museum gig with the Manila Symphony Orchestra. Ebe dedicated it to his nephew Kaio. Sugarfree's version was so much in league with the original.

Ben Folds is a genius. By the way, that's him and his son in the video.

STILL FIGHTING IT

Good morning, son.
I am a bird
Wearing a brown polyester shirt
You want a coke?
Maybe some fries?
The roast beef combos only $9.95
It's okay, you don't have to pay
Ive got all the change

Everybody knows
It hurts to grow up
And everybody does
Its so weird to be back here
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
Were still fighting it, were still fighting it
And you're so much like me
I'm sorry

Good morning, son
In twenty years from now
Maybe well both sit down and have a few beers
And I can tell you bout today
And how I picked you up and everything changed
It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things

Everybody knows
It sucks to grow up
And everybody does
Its so weird to be back here.
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
Were still fighting it, were still fighting it
You'll try and try and one day you'll fly
Away from me

Good morning, son
I am a bird

It was pain
Sunny days and rain
I knew you'd feel the same things

Everybody knows
It hurts to grow up
And everybody does
Its so weird to be back here.
Let me tell you what
The years go on and
Were still fighting it, were still fighting it
Oh, were still fighting it, were still fighting it

And you're so much like me
Im sorry

Fave songs: "The Universal" by Blur

My favorite Blur song.

This is the video remember. I dunno if Damon Albarn's cane is just a prop or for real (more likely a prop, though).

This is the official video. I only discovered it through YouTube today.

And this is a lovely lovely live version, with Damon Albarn looking extra dreamy.

The song's got many things I love:
- Simple but contemplative lyrics
- Britpop with strings and horns
- A hot Englishman playing the piano =D

"THE UNIVERSAL"

This is the next century
Where the universal's free
You can find it anywhere
Yes, the future has been sold
Every night we're gone
And to karaoke songs
How we like to sing along
Although the words are wrong

It really, really, really could happen
Yes, it really, really, really could happen
When the days they seem to fall through you, well just let them go

No one here is alone, satellites in every home
Yes the universal's here, here for everyone
Every paper that you read
Says tomorrow is your lucky day
Well, here's your lucky day

It really, really, really could happen
Yes, it really, really, really could happen
When the days they seem to fall through you, well just let them go

Well, it really, really, really could happen
Yes, it really, really, really could happen
When the days they seem to fall through you, well just let them go

Just let them go

Tonight was YouTube night

It all started with my guitar.

I got home, played some guitar, got reminded of one of my most favorite rock n' roll songs - Hard to Handle (the Black Crowes' version; I have yet to listen to the original by Otis Redding).

So I YouTubed.

BLACK CROWES - HARD TO HANDLE (Live 1990)
(Chris sings this quite differently from the record though.)

Then I remembered another Black Crowes song I liked. At this point, I'm contemplating visiting the record store tomorrow to buy me a Black Crowes CD (sakto sweldo, hehehe)...

BLACK CROWES - SHE TALKS TO ANGELS (Live 2006)

Then I remembered the person who introduced me to this song.

JOSH LOGAN - PAINFUL BREATH/SHE TALKS TO ANGELS
(Live 2006, after Rockstar: Supernova was concluded)

Then I even YouTube-d and MySpace-d Toby Rand/Juke Kartel, and Phil Ritchie/Lennex. Yup, my boys on Rockstar: Supernova :P

Then I opened a new browser window, which led me to CNN.com. One of the headlines was: "Elephant bites, flings Corwin"

And then I feared the worst...oh sh!t, is Jeff alright???

Thankfully, he is. Just a twisted arm is all. Found the footage on YouTube, but what I'm sharing here is one of his talks in San Francisco. He talked about a lot of stuff. This particular segment has Jeff talking about how he had it hard in high school. Yes, Jeff Corwin had a hard time in high school(!) But how did he get to be the awesome wildlife biologist he is now?

JEFF CORWIN AS A STUDENT

So there. A night of YouTube and MySpace, the Internet.
A night of reacquainting myself with my celebrity crushes, actually :D

The Jack Bambis

Can you believe they're 12-year-olds? Awesome stuff!

Btw, the guitarist is Indio, the son of one of my all-time crushes - Mr. Robert Downey, Jr.

And the drummer is the son of Red Hot Chili Peppers' tour manager (or something like that, sorry, di ko kasi kilala hehe).

I like the lady's voice, though I'm not too hot about her "lazy/laid-back" stage presence. Nonetheless, they're good! :D

Presenting: THE JACK BAMBIS!

Treadmills rock!

My student Josh told me about this vid some time ago, but I only saw it for the first time on MYX a few minutes ago. Ok Go's "Here It Goes Again". Awesome awesome vid! Think of the choreography, rehearsals, and actual shooting that went into it - one-take deal! Galing :)

Marty Casey and Lovehammers' "Merry Christmas (All Year Long)"

I'll be forever thanking Rockstar:INXS for introducing to the world Marty Casey. Because of that show, everyone got to know about his awesome Chicago band Lovehammers. And it's a really nice thing Marty didn't win, because his band got him back, and now they have a great debut album out.

As for Chris Daughtry, who I loved on American Idol, I haven't heard his new songs yet. I would've loved to hear more new stuff from his former band, Absent Element, though.

So back to Marty Casey. Got this from the mailing list newsletter. They've got a Christmas song out, and the vid features Suzie McNeil from Rockstar:INXS. Ang cute nilang dalawa hehe.

Vid-yo

YouTube-d tonight. One vid led to the other. Here we go.

Cambio - Patlang
Hehe, si Jim Paredes pala yung manong na pumasok sa room habang tumutugtog sila. I love this song to pieces.

Eraserheads - Trip to Jerusalem
Katuwa yung lakwatserong upuan. Sino nga ba director ng vid na 'to? Ang cool kasi nung cinematography (I hope I used that term correctly) - the silhouette shots, the chair shots, etc.

Eraserheads - Tama Ka (Tribute Vid)
Fan tribute video for Buddy Zabala. Buddy is my most favorite Eraserhead, and this is prolly my most favorite Buddy song.

Cambio - DV (Live at Intramuros, 2004)
Fun song, cool Buddy bassline, rocking crowd, shirtless Ebe. What more can you ask for? Heehee :P

Teeth - Shooting Star (Live at the NU Rock Awards 2000)
My 2nd favorite Teeth song. This performance features Marc Abaya on guitars (if I'm not mistaken...siya nga ba yun?)

Eraserheads - Combo on the Run (Live at Ateneo, 1993!)
Grabe, classic Eheads! 1993 - gradeschool pa ako nito! This is the song that bears the lyrics "Ultraelectromagneticpop!" and "Baby, you can bet your pwet, I'll do it again some time for the money"

Moonpools & Caterpillars - Interview at 5&Up (1996)
One of my most favorite Fil-Am bands ever. Nakaka-miss na sila! A CD copy of Lucky Dumpling will be a jewel in my CD collection...Hmmm, the 5&Up host looks like Maxine Magalona...5&Up kid ba siya?

Moonpools & Caterpillars - Live Performance on ASAP (1996)
Grabe, tumayo balahibo ko to hear those songs again. Haha, Dayanara Torres was part of the ASAP hosts; she's so pretty. Kainis, ang kulit ni Martin Nievera. Dayanara, Martin & Pops (kasal pa sila nun hehe), Ariel - I miss the '90s! Woohoo!

Lokomotiv - Five Alive
The official music video, with Basti Artadi still on vocals. Tagal na pala nito; short-hair pa si David Aguirre.

Wolfgang - Center of the Sun (Acoustic at the Music Museum, 2000)
One of the BEST (if not THE BEST) gigs I have EVER attended. Uy, may Pisay dun sa UP Singing Ambassadors na kasama nila, hehehe. Aaah I miss Wolfgang so badly :( Contemplating popping in the Acoustica VCD and reliving the whole thing all over again...

Lokomotiv - Warpigs (by Black Sabbath) (Universal Bar & Grill, 2006)
Prolly one of the last gigs of Basti with Loko. The first time I heard this Black Sabbath song, si Basti kaagad ang naisip ko sa vocals ni Ozzy (I haven't heard Black Sabbath prior to listening to Warpigs, maybe in 2002, hehe). No one - NO ONE - can growl like Basti Artadi. So even if I do like Ryan as Lokomotiv's new vocalist, wala pa ring papalit sa puso ko kay Basti Artadi.

These have got to be my best vid finds for tonight:

To the kids of today who know Jason Newstead mostly because of the show Rockstar:Supernova, let me just tell you that that guy was here in our shores 10 years ago and he played with the greatest hard rock bands of that time - Wolfgang, Skychurch, Datu's Tribe, etc - at that rockin' place called Club Dredd.

Let me digress for a bit: I think I was born a couple of years too late. In 1996, I was a sophomore in Pisay and too young to gig. When I finally graduated in 1998 at medyo pinapayagan na akong mag-gig...biglang nagsara ang Club Dredd. Phooey. Bad trip. Hindi man lang niya ako hinintay.

So yeah, back to Jason Newstead. I don't care if some people think he's a washed-up has-been. I've got respect for this ex-bassist of Metallica, na isa lang naman sa pinaka-astig na banda sa buong mundo EVER.

These are videos of Jason's visit here in '96, c/o schizo102 (check out his other precious vids - quite an awesome collection he's got, and I'm betting that's not even the half of it).

Part 1 - Interview by the Villegas twins (of Rizal Underground)
Part 2 - Jason jams with Wolfgang, Skychurch, Datu's Tribe

EDIT: Si Cabring lang pala yung Datu's Tribe sa vid. Kwento niya sa 'kin sa text kanina: Datu's didn't jam with him. Ako lang. Everyone else was in Los Banos and biglaan yung jam. Jason nag-bass, drummer and gitarista from Skychurch, ako boses. He didn't really want to jam Metallica songs so we just jammed. They improvised, and I used Datu's lyrics, hahaha :) Jason muntik pa makuryente sa Dredd. Pangalawang bahista na sana siya ng Metallica namatay sa aksidente hahaha :)

Is this the beginning of our last dance?

Astig.

I hated Urbandub's video for "First of Summer". I LOVED the song, and when the video came out, I was disappointed with Urbandub for making such a 'pretentious' vid. Andami kong lait dun sa video (storywise, mostly).

And then the video for "Endless, A Silent Whisper" came out. Just caught it a while ago. And I am filled with a renewed awe for the band, and also for the director of both vids, Ms. Marie Jamora.

Ang galing! Endless is actually a continuation of FOS. They pieced stuff together, and showed you why things were the way they were in the FOS vid. Cool :)

Check them out for yourself:

kankungan2001 for uploading these on YouTube)

Constantine and marriage

Just finishin Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps" before I start this post. Hehehe, I definitely dig that vid. Sabi nga ni Andrew, kala niya some cheapipay novelty group yung kumanta - BEP pala. Only they could get away with sumthin like that :P

- - - - -

Ok, so I'm devoting a bit more time for longer posts. Btw, did I catch yer attention with this entry's title? Hehehe...

- - - - -

A long time ago (hehe), I got to watch Constantine at the Alabang Town Center. I'm no Connie fan, but I do admit it was entertaining to watch the guy - he does know how to work the crowd. I situated myself at the 3rd floor since I arrived late so wala nang space sa 1st and 2nd floors. Buti nalang kasi sa 3rd floor service elevator siya dumaan before going to the Activity Center downstairs so I got to take a good pic of him arriving at ATC.

He performed a good lot of songs, most of which he performed on AI. He even danced with a gal onstage during one of the songs - turns out it was Arnee Hidalgo. Hehehe, di ko nakilala from the 3rd floor. No wonder Jeffrey Hidalgo was there during the autograph signing session.

That evening Stalker Mode was definitely on. Just before Constantine was about to leave ATC, I thought about where his exit point would be, and so I headed for the mall entrance near Philux. Right enough, Constantine's van was already waiting there. So I positioned myself to get another good pic just a few seconds before I saw him walking towards the exit, followed by a crowd of security folks and giggling gals.

As Constantine passed by, he flashed a peace sign and posed for my waiting camera. Alas, my finger didn't get to push the shutter button, so no pic for me. Dang. Nagpose pa man din siya. Pffft.

Wow, this is the first time a wedding invite is actually addressed to ME (and Andrew), and not to my family tapos tag-along lang ako.

My friends and batchmates Ramil and Andrea (congrats, you two!!!) are getting married on December 17 (the 4th Pisay '98 couple to tie the knot, tama ba?), so Drew and I went to Rustan's ATC to check out their Bridal Registry.

Along the way, we bump into Faye, who has a little surprise of her own for us. Hoy bruha, I am so very happy for you *hug*

When Drew and I get to Rustan's, we see another surprise. Lying there on one of the tables was the Bridal Registry of Manuel Legarda and his wife (they just got married over the weekend)! Hehe, yep, nakakakalat lang dun yung printout ng registry nila. Drew and I had half the mind to just pocket the darn paper hahaha. Big Wolfgang fans, you see.

Oh man...there goes that line again - "Oh my gosh, tumatanda na tayo!" It was kinda surreal for Drew and I to check out a bridal registry, LOL :P

And, although I know it's bad, I always get kinda jealous when couples who have been together for a shorter time compared to Drew and I get married. Hehehe. Kung hindi lang siguro mahal magpakasal...

Eraserheads Tribute Album!

I'm very much excited for this one. Sony-BMG and Jam88.3 have joined forces to bring us a tribute album to the Eraserheads. Not sure if it's out na, but the songs have been playing on Jam already.

Sa nasagap ko, here are some of the stuff na kasama sa album:

With A Smile - South Border
Ligaya - Kitchie Nadal
Overdrive - Barbie Almalbis
Huwag Mo Ng Itanong - MYMP
Magasin - Paolo Santos
Alcohol - Radio Active Sago Project
Torpedo - Isha
Spoliarium - Imago
Hard To Believe - Cueshe
Maling Akala - Brownman Revival
Superproxy - FrancisM
Alapaap - 6Cyclemind
Pare ko - Sponge Cola
Ang Huling El Bimbo - Rico J. Puno
Tikman - Sugarfree
Huwag Kang Matakot - Orange & Lemons
Para Sa Masa - All Star

- - - - -

Been able to watch MYX and MTV more often ulit. Natutuwa ako sa mga lokal vids na napapanood ko, such as:

chubibo's patawad
parokya ni edgar's mang jose
mojofly's tumatakbo
sheila and the insects's quick to panic
imago's anino
sandwich's masilungan
brownman revival's lintik
sugarfree's tulog na

Hehe, katuwa yung Lintik ng BMR, katuloy ng Maling Akala vid. Pero may napansin akong glitch. Sa Maling Akala, nakahubad yung girl under her robe. Pero sa Lintik, may suot na siyang black spaghetti strap vest(?) under the robe. Hehehe.

Kinikilabutan parin ako pagdumarating sa part na yung boses ni Dino mapapalitan ng boses ni Ely.

Vote sana natin 'tong mga vids na 'to so they could chart higher and thus get more exposure ;)
