Makeover of the Mighty Dacs
For the longest time, I've ignored this blog. So now that I have a bit of time, I've been exploring the new Blogger.com.
The template seems to be easier to manipulate, but I'm still learning. So far, I have yet to bring back the vidclips and blog links I used to have in my sidebar. Will most likely work on that tonight. Just have to go to mass in a while.
BRB =)
Monday, May 28, 2006 - 12:04 AM
There! Done with the Mighty Makeover. Was able to restore the audio (Now Playing) and video (Now Showing) widgets, as well as the blog list (Blogrounds) and the tag board (Quack Back).
As for Blogrounds, I kinda rebuilt it from scratch. I relied mainly on my Blogrounds when I blog-hopped, so I don't really have all those blogs bookmarked on this PC. So when I switched to the upgraded template, the HTML for that part of the sidebar disappeared. So it's mostly Pisay folks there, thanks to the blogroll of our batch blog :D
If any of you wants to be added to Blogrounds, just Quack Back or post a comment here :)
I can't remember if I've had Miron as the featured song here, but anyway there it is now. I actually posted this on my Multiply and dedicated it to Batch 2007. Going over the lyrics, I figured this is also a fine choice to start off the schoolyear.
"Kelan ka ba sasalang?
'Di ka aantayin ng mundo
Iikot ng iikot 'to
'Di ba nakakagigil?"

Twisted Halo - Miron

Sabi-sabi….sabi-sabi…

Kelan ka ba sasalang?…
Di ka aantayin ng mundo…
Iikot ng iikot ito…

Nasaan ang bagyo?! Nasaaan?!!!
- - - - -
What sucks about yesterday's suspension of classes (eh wala namang bagyo pa!):
1. Dahlia and Jasmin didn't get to take their Long Test # 2. That's bad? Yes, for me it is. Kasi dapat LT nung Thu, no classes sa Fri, tapos last lesson sa Mon, kasi perio starts Tue. Now what?
2. I found out about the suspension as I got off the MRT at the Ayala Station. Bad trip, kasi had I known I'd have a 4-day weekend, I would've brought home stuff to check and stuff to do! Currently on my table are test papers and other stuff I could've brought home to finish. Grrr.
What's OK about yesterday's suspension of classes, or what's OK about the storm not hitting Manila yet as of last night:
1. Hindi binagyo ang Sugarfree album launch. Though hindi naman talaga ako pupunta, at least natuloy yung event w/o the hassle of bad weather.
2. At least the kids have time to do all the requirements they need to finish before the onset of perio on Dec 5. Good luck folks! Please try your best not to cram anymore projects or exams. Make the best use of this 4-day weekend!
3. I got to sleep in the whole day! Hehehe.
4. I got to upload gig pics and vids. Check em out!

From the LOKOMOTIV gig at AL'S Bar/Rock Radio in BF Paranaque (11/25/06):
Southern Grass jamming - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNYLP56unQU
Lokomotiv's Five Alive - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t0UcujrNlSY
Lokomotiv's Heart in Two - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zKt308CNgwo
PICS - http://mightydacs98.multiply.com/photos/album/56
Ang galing ng Lokomotiv. I really missed watching Wolf and David play. Pero at least kung States-based na sila, a bigger audience will get to experience their rocking performances.
The American guys - Ryan the vocalist, who's from Oklahoma, and Danny the bassist, who's from California (tama ba?) - were terrific. Ang solid nung Lokomotiv as a band. And they're really nice! Nagpa-autograph ako nung CD inlay - something I haven't done in years, I think. I was (yet again) a giddy highschool kid na na-starstruck sa mga band folks. My hand was actually shaking as I let Ryan and the band sign, hahaha =) But yeah, they were really nice; kita mo sa pakikitungo nila that they like meeting the fans.
Tapos nakakatuwa pa kasi si Dino (I hope I remembered his name right) who was Wolfgang's roadie back then was also with Lokomotiv that night. Tinuro pa niya sa akin sino pa yung ipapasign sa CD (kala niya siguro di ko makikilala yung band members hehe).
The night was surreal. Couldn't believe I was in the same room w/ David Aguirre, hehehe. That guy is a truly awesome guitar player.
Oh, btw, front acts Kinkyhooters and Southern Grass were also great! Gotta watch out for their albums, sana ilabas na soon.
Too bad Drew and I couldn't stay for DRT anymore. 11pm na kasi nagsimula yung gig, tapos halos 1-hour sets yung bands. So as Lokomotiv wrapped up at 2am, I definitely needed to go back home (nahiritan pa nga ako the next day kasi late na raw ako umuwi, pffft). Eh balita ko nag-Razorback reunion pa raw after DRT. Grrr, sayang! Razorback w/ David Aguirre! Hmph.

I've also finished uploading pics and vids from the Admit One 5th Anniv Party Part 2:
Fatal Posporos' Pudgy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoxbKO0NQFE
Fatal Posporos' Sili Song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e80dls4LFgQ

Twisted Halo's Undress: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrnV0Y2WfEA
PICS - http://mightydacs98.multiply.com/photos/album/55
This was yet another Admit One party for the record. Ang saya-saya seeing the orig lineup, though hindi ko na naabutan yung Cambio and Dicta License. Last time I saw Fatal play plugged was in 2003 or 2004 pa ata, nung buhay pa yung dating Rock Radio Cafe. So I was really really happy to watch them again. Too bad wala si Annette; Abe Billano took over drum duties instead.
And, of course, Twisted Halo. Nag-usap kami ni Vin after their set, and he expressed his happiness in what their set turned out to be. Ang ganda kasi ng tugtugan nila. I couldn't pinpoint what was different about it, basta pakiramdam ko it wasn't the usual Twisted Halo set. Even Jal's basslines (yup, Jal played 2 songs!) were different. Kumbaga, para silang ganadong-ganado tumugtog.
At siyempre, hindi ko na pinalampas yung pagkakataong i-record yung "Undress". Since it will forever remain an unreleased Twisted Halo track, getting it on video was the next best thing. Ilang beses ko na pinanood yung nirecord ko, and I still can't get enough of it.
What surprised me, though, was what Vin said. Sabi niya, playing that set made him realize na tama yung ginawa niyang pag-alis sa banda (and the band breakup that followed). They've had their time na rin daw kasi. Tama na yun. And, that night, seeing and hearing the crowd sing along to almost all the songs, natuwa siya, slightly regretting na bakit hindi ganun yung reaction nung crowd dati (well, at least that's how I interpreted what he was saying), pero bottomline is that he was really satisfied sa tugtog nila nung gabing yun.
Ako naman, sabi ko, kahit man lang sa Admit One anniv nalang sila tutugtog, maghihintay ako taon-taon. Hehehe.

O ano? Nasaan na yung bagyo? Sana makadaan na siya by this morning, because I want to attend the Rock Awards tonight!!! Pleeease!!! (Pero sana hindi naman malakas yung tama ng bagyo, para hindi rin makadulot ng matinding pinsala sa atin. Masyado na kasi tayong kinakawawa ng tadhana.)

In loving memory of...

1st Generation Twisted Halo at Sugarfree's 7th Anniversay Gig (August 2006)
Vin (vocals/guitars), Jal (bass), Ichot (drums), Joey (guitars), Jason (guitars)
I miss Twisted Halo *tear*
Saw this pic from Kris Dancel's Multiply. Natuwa ako kasi (as you may know by now) Twisted Halo is one of my ultimate favorite bands, but I never got to watch this lineup kasi di pa ako gig person nun.
Tapos na-sad na naman ako. Ganun naman lagi pag nakikita/naririnig ko Twisted Halo eh.
They had their farewell gig last May 25. The band I love is no more; just when everyone was eagerly waiting for the second album to come out (they played their new songs during that gig, and they were darn good!).
It amuses me how many feelings I experience when I encounter Twisted Halo wherever - like when Rabii (my iPod) churns out a Halo song during Shuffle.
For a fleeting moment, I actually experience anger, possibly even resentment. Deep inside, I am extremely disappointed that they had to break-up without even giving us the new songs they had brewing. Ayan na, lumalabas na ang hidden hostilities, hehehe.
But then that doesn't last very long, because the feeling almost instantly changes to sadness. I absolutely loved Twisted Halo - they're actually almost (if not already at) the same level as Counting Crows, Eraserheads, and Wolfgang, which are my three most favorite bands of all time. So sobrang nalulungkot ako na hindi ko na sila mapapanood tumugtog. And, wow, you must believe me that it is a totally intense experience to see them play live. Listening to the CD alone is one helluva trip, but hearing those songs in the flesh - it's a totally different, higher level.
And then after a bit of resentment and a lingering sadness, I smile (hahaha nabaliw na). Because, ultimately, the memories I have of this band are those of how they make me happy. Happy to have discovered such awesome music. Happy to have connected deeply with their craft. Happy to have met such wonderful people.
- - - - -

The lineup I came to know and love
Joey (guitars), Jason (guitars/vocals), Vin (vocals/guitars), Buddy (bass), and Monmon (drums/rapping/running man - hehehe).
In some way or another, I got to see how great these guys were not only as musicians, but also as regular people (so...musicians are irregular people? hehe).
Monmon - YM buddy. Translation: kachismisan tuwing nagpupuyat ako at nasa trabaho naman siya. I totally loved those couple of times that Monmon would just make kwento about...stuff. He recognizes me not just as a fan but rather a friend. And that affirmation on his part is something I really appreciate. And, yeah, I totally love watching him perform. Sabi nga niya sa self-description niya somewhere (a Twisted Halo article, I think), he's obese yet sexy. Hehehe. At walang tatalo sa Ice Ice Baby niya!
Jason - Sa kanilang lima, si Jason na siguro yung pinaka-mystery sa akin, kasi siya yung pinaka-hindi ko kilala. I love his writing though (he currently writes for Pulp mag), and the write-ups he made for his bandmembers on their official website (na wala na rin) were hilarious. But what he texted back after I thanked him during the farewell gig is what I'll remember most about him - again, it was an affirmation that my efforts as a fan of their music did not go unappreciated.
Joey - If a Halo gig is a sight to see, a radio interview with Joey (and Monmon!) is a blast to hear. I caught a radio guesting on NU where only Joey and Monmon were there (Vin was late, Buddy and Jason couldn't come). My gulay, halos namatay ako kakatawa sa hiritan nung dalawa. And Joey and I have some sort of school connection - we're a couple of batches apart in CSA Makati, and there's also that Pisay connection (no, hindi siya yung Pisay) :D
Vin - I've expressed here before how glad and awed I am to have met this guy. He's totally inspiring - the way he is passionate about things (his music, his beliefs) is not something you see in just anybody. Vin's a cool rockstar hero to have, but what's way cooler is having him as a friend.
Buddy - Yes, THE Buddy Zabala of THAT band :D And LOTS of other bands and projects, too. He's currently with The Dawn, and since The Dawn is my Multiply contact, I keep seeing pics of Buddy (through the email updates), so lalo ko siyang namimiss, at siyempre ang Twisted Halo. This evening, Buddy crossed my mind twice because of two separate incidences (a chat with my friend Michelle, and Robin Rivera's NU guesting). So on my way home from work, I got to thinking how much of a nice guy (and musical god) Buddy is. My very first personal encounter with him (sa Pisay Kwentuhan Sessions 2004), naramdaman ko na yung nice-guy vibe niya. Siya yung tipong tao na pag nakita mo o naisip mo, parang gusto mo lang i-hug sa tuwa mong kilala mo siya, hehe. No rockstar bull at all. Sabi ko nga dati, it's so humbling to be in his presence. Which then led me to think how much of a hero this guy is to me - Buddy's actually my most favorite local rockstar. Ever.

Paalam at SALAMAT Twisted Halo!
It was Halo's video lauch (for "Public Service announcement") and farewell gig at Big Sky Mind.
To celebrate seven years of fierce and unapologetically honest rock and roll, friends packed the place and past members came to jam one last time - a big treat for me since I only became a Halo fan in 2003.
Sugarfree, Cambio, and sandwich started out the night with short but sweet three-song sets.
At around 12 midnight, the video for Public Service Announcement, directed by RA Rivera, premiered to an excited audience - and we were definitely not disappointed. Astig yung video (kinalbo si Vin hehe)! I hope this vid and the song make the charts. Huling hirit na para sa banda.
What followed was an intense almost-two-hour set, where Twisted Halo played songs from BOTH the EP and their album, and new stuff as well! Sobra akong natuwa because I never thought I'd hear songs like White on Yellow and The Bean Curve live ever, or see Jal, Monmon, and Buddy play with the band again!
From what I remember, this was the playlist (not in order, though).
Songs from the EP:
Hiram (which started out the set - I love this song to pieces)
White on Yellow
The Bean Curve
Cut to Commercial
Brad (which ended the set)
Songs from the album:
Breakable
Irene
Closed Captioned
Hostile Takeover
#36 - with Aia!
All About Relationships
Asan Na?
Miron
Again
Public Service Announcement
Plus two new songs: Nyssa and Undress.
17 songs! *Phew*
Throughout their set and towards the end, the band kept thanking all there was to thank. I just wanted to go there and hug them all and thank THEM for such wonderful music, which, sadly, we won't get to hear live again. Thank God for CD's and cassettes (for those recorded radio guestings).
And, at the end of it all, Vin thanked the crowd and said, "We were Twisted Halo."
:(
(Pics from the farewell gig)
P.S. Thanks a lot Christi for coming with me even if you were really tired na :)

So far, all the bands that I extremely love are no more - Eraserheads, Wolfgang, and now Twisted Halo. Ang malas ko naman, lahat ng minamahal kong banda nawawala :(
True, there are a lot bands to love out there, like Sugarfree, Cambio, sandwich and so much more.
Ok lang ako siguro sa Eheads and Wolfgang; they've long been gone, and they left a lot of material for us to cherish while we wait for the (never-to-come) reunion gigs.
But Twisted Halo - I LOVE THESE GUYS. Their craft is like no other - musically and lyrically. I think I love them already like I love Counting Crows - my favorite band in the whole wide universe. With Halo and the Crows, you don't just listen to the music. You get stung by the words, you get blown away by the performances (um, ok, I've never seen Counting Crows live, but anyway...).
And it's just so great that they're not only rockstars I adore - they're friends I've been blessed to know. Which kinda takes away the sadness, then. Because even if I won't get to see them perform as a band anymore, I'll still get to see them and talk to them when I go to gigs, so all is not lost.
Nasasayangan lang ako kasi I was so excited about the upcoming album. They even played two new songs the other night - never again to be heard. Ang gaganda pa naman.
- - - -
To Twisted Halo - you guys were (and are still) very much worth listening to. And I'm very happy you also appreciate how much I appreciate your music. I will always be a fan and a friend. Mamimiss ko kayo :(

Thursday is Finale Day - AI and Twisted Halo
Will the Soul Patrol take to the streets to celebrate? Or will an epidemic of McPheever take over America?

The only other AI finale I watched was that of Season 3 - Barrino vs Degarmo. So when the forums keep echoing that Season 5's was the worst AI finale ever, I guess I can't comment.
But indeed the previous Season 5 shows were more exciting than the finale performances. Bumawi lang sa hordes of screaming fans in the packed Kodak Theater. Some even say Daniel Powter's performance was the best that night and we should vote for him :P
And those original songs they made Kat and Taylor sing - ano yun??? I do hope Taylor wins this one, but if those supposed debut singles are a sign of the next American Idol's upcoming album...ewan ko nalang ha.
Makes me glad Chris didn't reach the Finals. Think of the pop crap they'll make my rocker dude sing!
Speaking of Chris - I didn't see him in the audience when I watched the 5pm show. So I was totally surprised and excited when Ryan talked to him before the show started. Andun pala siya! Hehehe. I swear, I actually squealed like a high school gal seeing her senior crush. Sheeesh.
Final note - if audience reaction = votes, Taylor won this thing first round pa lang.
SOUL PATROL SOUL PATROL SOUL PATROL SOUL PATROL SOUL PATROL SOUL PATROL!!!
- - - - -
At 9:00 in the evening, I'll be attending another kind of finale - it'll be the farewell gig of my beloved Twisted Halo.

From Vin:
It's Twisted Halo's farewell gig and video launch for our last single Public Service Announcement tmrow (May 25) 9pm Big SkyMind w/ Sugarfree Cambio & Sandwich! free entrance!kitakits ayuz!

Sana ang buong taon mo ay Pasko

SANA NGA
twisted halo
from the Jam 88.3 Christmas album 2005
tuwing sasapit ang araw na 'to
nagsasayaw ka sa mga panaginip ko
mga dasal at pangarap mo
kapayapaan sa gitna ng gulo sa mundo
tanda mo pa ba?
pagkabata't pangungulila
mula sa langit
bumaba ang mga tala
sana ang buong taon mo
ay pasko
sana di lang panandalian 'to
pasko
pagod ka na sa paglalakbay mo
ilang taong hinagpis at pagbabalatkayo
sana'y makapagpahinga ang puso mo
sa akin di mo kailangang magbagong-anyo
aakayin kita, sasamahan
kaibigan, katuwang
ang mga tala'y muling magsasayawan
sana ang buong taon mo
ay pasko
sana di lang panandalian 'to
pasko
tanda mo pa ba?
pagkabata't pangungulila
mula sa langit
bumaba ang mga tala
sana ang buong taon mo
ay pasko
sana di lang panandalian 'to
pasko
