Only truly appreciated this song when Sugarfree performed it during their Music Museum gig with the Manila Symphony Orchestra. Ebe dedicated it to his nephew Kaio. Sugarfree's version was so much in league with the original.

Anlakas ng ulan sa Pisay kanina (sa Pisay lang daw eh noh)! I braved the rain and parking lot flood kasi ayaw kong umuwi ng late. When I got to the car, I realized I left my baunan at the Bio Unit. Eh weekend so di pwedeng balikan the next day. Tsss. Tas pagbalik ko sa kotse wala nang ulan. Pffft.

On the way home, I passed Katipunan. Cars were slowing down sa may tapat ng The Barn. There was a kitten na nasagasaan :( I had to maneuver para sa gitna siya ng gulong ko. Ang masama pa nun, sumisipa pa yung kitty! Waaaaah! :'(

Isinigaw ko nalang yung frustration. Mag-isa lang naman ako sa kotse. And in the car stereo my AI rocker dude Chris Daughtry was singing "It's not the time to break down..." Hahaha! Ganda ng stuff niya with his band, Absent Element! Listen to them.

Finally I find time to give this blog a makeover (it's not much but at least something has changed).

First of all, the featured song for the month (or for how long it takes 'til the next makeover) is Datu's Tribe's LAKAMBINI BOTTOM, from their 2005 EP "Fat Burner". This is such a super fun song. Can't wait for their album to come out so we can hear the heavier, chunkier version of this :P

Secondly, that pig you see on the page title is Buurin, from the animated series locally known as "Super Boink", which was shown here during the late 90's (basta high school pa ako nun). Kaya pala ang hirap magsearch ng "Super Boink" sa Google eh kasi "Tonde Buurin" pala yung totoong title niya, at "Super Pig" yung English version. Dito lang siguro sa Pinas naging "Super Boink".

So bakit baboy? Quite a number of reasons: gusto ko ng baboy, tungkol sa baboy yung kanta, best friend ko si Super Boink (hehehehe, love you D!). Haaay, makes me miss high school :P

Happy 20th anniv naman sa EDSA People Power Revolution! I was six when that happened - basically wala pa akong malay nun hehe. Now, I'm 25 and wondering whatever happened to our country since the people took to EDSA to tell Marcos to leave.

Ikinalulungkot ko lang isipin na kahit ilan pang People Power ang idaos sa EDSA, kung kabulukan rin lang naman ang ipapalit na administrasyon, wala rin tayong mapapala.

So ang tanong ngayon - is there someone out there really capable of leading our country without falling into the arms of corruption? Is this a question of changing our system? Of changing the people that run the government? Or of changing OURSELVES? Feeling ko kasi ang problema nasa puso't isip ng bawat Pinoy. We all need an attitude check. We tend to pull each other down when we're supposed to be helping each other out of this hellhole. If only we thought of what we could do for others, and not just what we can do to better our own lives, then maybe we could get far as a nation.

And I think it all starts at home, in school, at work, and wherever character can be built and molded into something distinctly and PROUDLY Pinoy. Let's show the world our good side, for once. Hindi yung puro nalang "bahala na", "sarili muna", etc. We can all be role models to the people who look up to us (believe me, someone somewhere looks up to YOU, whoever you are, so don't let him/her down).

Embrace - Urbandub's 3rd album - is beautiful. Influence will always be my favorite, but this latest one has its own merits - like Lalay's noticeable back-up vocals. That gal really rocks. And, yeah, you just gotta love Gabby's songwriting (...and dimples...and scar) ;)

Rediscovering Billy

I'm obviously a rock fan. But there is one country singer that I do appreciate - that guy called Billy Gilman.

He's the kid behind the song "One Voice", his first single, which charted on Billboard when he was just 11 years old, making him the youngest soloist ever to appear on Billboard country charts.

"One Voice", the album, went Gold in 4 weeks and Platinum in 12. The album also contains "Oklahoma", a song about an adopted child finally meeting his real dad - a very emotional song.

Sometime in 2002, Billy was forced into vocal exile due to the stress caused by endless concerts, lest he seriously damaged his vocal chords for good.

Last May 2005, 17-year-old Billy came back with a new album, "Everything and More", featuring a voice that was an octave lower.

I've listened to the tracks, and I'm seriously considering buying the album, hehe. I bought One Voice for my mom but ended up keeping it :D

Galing kasi ng voice niya eh. Tuwang-tuwa ako 5 years ago seeing this 11-year-old kid sing like that. Now that his voice has matured, maganda rin naman yung kinalabasan.

This is a song that, for some reason I don't know, brings back memories of my first poodle, Koko, who left for doggie heaven sometime 1995 I think.
