It's all over the news now. 8.8 magnitude quake hit Chile early Saturday morning there. I found out about it while reading Elliott Yamin's Twitter. He's been there for a couple of days now for some huge festival. Excited pa naman siya na nandun siya. But he's safe though. CNN has broadcasted his tweets, and NBC and ABC are putting him on and making him world correspondent. Nakuha pa niyang itweet, "If singing doesn't work out..." Hehehe. That's why we love him so :)
Keep safe, Elliott! My prayers, too, for the people of Chile.

Elliott Yamin's sophomore album out now!

Elliott's sophomore album is out! Well, at least in the States. Haaay, kailan kaya yun aabot dito...?
You can listen to some of the songs on his MySpace. The songs take getting used to...parang mas madali kong nasakyan yung sa first album. Though the acoustic live version of Fight for Love sounds great.
Pinapatugtog ba ang FFL sa radio stations natin? Di kasi ako nakikinig ng radyo eh. The official vid's out, too, though I doubt it's receiving airplay here already.
Sana bumalik si Elliott dito to promote his 2nd album!!! He'll be in Japan this June...what are the chances that he could stop by our country, too...?
"I think that you were meant to be alive on this very night with me..."
Naks!
Btw, can anyone point me to chords/tabs for EY songs, aside from those in Ultimate-Guitar.com?
Also, may kanta pala si Elliott sa latest album ni Taylor Hicks.

Happy Mom's Day
Elliott paid tribute to his mom when he sang on Mariah-Carey-Results night.
To everyone out there, Happy Mom's Day to your mothers, no matter where they are...

Rest in Peace, Mama Claudette Yamin
Claudette Yamin, the beloved mother of my favorite AI alumnus, Elliott Yamin, passed away last March 31, 2008.
Got this from Marie through the Yaminoys Yahoogroup:
Here's the obituary that appeared in the Richmond Times-Dispatch: Claudette Goldberg Yamin YAMIN, Claudette Goldberg, 65, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2008. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mickey and Bernice Goldberg. She is survived by two devoted sons, Elliott of Richmond and Los Angeles, Calif., and Scott of Richmond; one loving daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Chris Queen of Encinitas, Calif.; two grandchildren, Sophia and Jedediah Queen; one brother, Eugene Goldberg and his partner, Mark Bloom, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; and a host of beloved family members. A retired mortgage broker and synagogue director, she gave enthusiastically of her time to the community, and in 2004, was honored by Jewish Family Services as their Volunteer of the Year. In the last two years of her life, she joined her son, Elliott, in the struggle to cure juvenile diabetes. The lives of those touched by her unique wit and zest for life will be eternally brightened. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday (today) at Bliley's-Central, 3801 Augusta Ave. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either Jewish Family Services, 6718 Patterson Ave., Richmond, Va. 23226, or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 3805 Cutshaw Ave., Richmond, Va. 23230.

One reason behind Elliott's endearment to his fans was the steadfast support his mom showed during the show.
I believe she was a beautiful soul...may she rest in peace.

A Mighty Update (Somewhat)
Things are busier over there on my Multiply sites :D So here's a quick recap of what's been going on over there. If you're on Multiply, add me up! :)
*
I finally finished loading up my '90s playlists! Yey! I really wanted them to come with blog posts, but I guess that'll have to wait till the Christmas break. In the meantime, let me share with you "My '90s Faves": 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999. These playlists are by no means complete. Again, I can hopefully add to them during the next long break.
*
These are on my Multiply, but they're right here on the sidebar as well, so lemme direct your attention there for a while:
Two great gigs this Saturday, October 13: Revolver @ saGuijo, Admit One @ Club Dredd! Wishing you could be in two places at one time, huh?
*
Rants and Raves:
Elliott Yamin on MYXellaneous
Revisiting Britney's "Baby One More Time"
OnL breaks up!
Sugarfree + MSO is love!
My coming-of-age film: Now and Then (1995)
*
Still very much hung over Elliott Yamin (really? nooo...), so I asked elfilipinoloco for a big favor, and since he's my favorite big little brother, he'll gladly oblige :D
Miss ya, DJ! Uwi na, dali!
*
I recently voted online for the 14th NU107 Rock Awards, and discovered how much of a Sugarfree fan I am. Of sooo many choices, I really wanted to split my votes among all my favorite bands. But in the end, Sugarfree got most of em :P
*
I've been an Elliott fan (Elliott Yamin na naman?!) since AI5, but I only recently joined some awesome online communities dedicated to the man. Come check these groups out, the folks there as fun as hell, and it's really awesome to interact with such wonderful fans and know about other people who share the same passion as you.
Etrain - the official Elliott Yamin forum (which was set up by a Pinoy!)
Yaminoys - the Yahoogroup for Filipino EY fans
*
Been uploading albums every now and then at my more personal Multiply. Check em out (weddings, Pisay happenings, Bio1 stuff, etc.)!
*
I guess that would be it. It's been hella crazy since Elliott visited Manila. "I never felt nothing in the world like this before."

For Andrew, on our Ninth Year
For my Andrew. HAPPY NINE YEARS, BABY :)
...You poured all this love in my heart
and now there's no way that I can lose
And when I have no faith in myself
you're the one who makes me strong...
You are the one who makes me whole
in my heart and in my soul
and just like the sun you show me the light
I'm amazed and you're the reason why.
YOU ARE THE ONE
Elliott Yamin
Sometimes I sit and I wonder
and I just can't seem to believe
What a blessing it's been to be loved
you're an angel sent to me
you're the star who lights up my sky
you're the one who made me see
that you don't need wings to fly
your love has set me free
Cause you are the one who makes me whole
in my heart and in my soul
and just like the sun you show me the light
I'm amazed and you're the reason why
Before you I was so blind
I didn't know which path to choose
You poured all this love in my heart
and now there's no way that I can lose
And when I have no faith in myself
you're the one who makes me strong
I wouldn't have a story to tell
or an ending to my song
Cause you are the one who makes me whole
in my heart and in my soul
and just like the sun you show me the light
I'm amazed and you're the reason why
You're the reason why
You are the one who makes me whole

My last Elliott gig (for now!)
Wasn't able to watch Elliott Yamin's Glorietta gig last Saturday (which I heard had a great crowd), because my mom didn't want me to drive home alone at night. Good thing Andrew agreed to watch with me at Market! Market!, with the deal that we'd also watch a movie. So watch we did.
I dunno if it was just the size of the place, but there didn't seem to be much Elliott fans there this evening. Lots of friggin' empty seats in the reserved area, and the floors above weren't really jampacked like in TriNoma. I think those who were on the upper floors were just there out of curiosity.
Didn't matter, anyway, because the Yamin fans that were indeed there were really really hyper and appreciative. They'd squeal at every opportunity they get (before, after, during a song, hehehe), and wave back to Elliott all the time. Nainggit ako kasi hindi ako makahiyaw at makakaway from my place (3rd floor, front and center of stage like before) kasi ako lang mag-isang nandun. Drew was with me sometimes, but he would go around the stores most of the time.
This megashow of love for Elliott by Pinoys prompted Elliott to declare this evening that we were THE BEST FANS EVER
He said that he couldn't wait to go back home and tell his friends there all about his wonderful experiences here in the Philippines. And just like I posted earlier at the Yaminoy Yahoogroup, it seems that just as Elliott has made a mark in our hearts, us Pinoys have made a mark on his as well
Except for maybe one or two times, I kept my camera in the bag for the duration of the show. Since I couldn't get good pics nor vids anyway, I just wanted to experience Elliott with my own ears and eyes. He's a really good artist live; his performances are loads of levels beyond the album version! Ang galing kasi hindi ka magsasawang pakinggan siya live.
It was amusing to watch him deal with his sweat just a few songs into his set; he didn't have a facetowel with him like he did in TriNoma. So he'd wipe his face on his sleeves every once in a while
Then later on one of the staff handed him a towel, which Elliott ended up throwing to the audience much much later.
One other thing I remember is that as the fans were screaming "I love you" to Elliott, he'd reply "I love you, too"
And I don't know to whom this was addressed, but it was such an awww-some thing to hear him say on the mic, "I love you too, sweetheart"

More random Elliottness
Some more thoughts on Elliott na hindi ko nasama sa previous entry. As you can see, I'm still very much sufferring from Elliott fever.
* Bumped into Ma'am Norma(?) Reyes after the show. Ma'am Reyes was my Art teacher in 2nd year. The only memory I have of her class was when she asked us to describe how we appreciate art, or something like that. I said, appreciating art is like appreciating music. You don't just listen to the drums, or the guitars, or the vocals. You need to take it all in. Naks.
* On the way home I had a nerdy nerdy though (sorry na): I had Elliott's DNA in my hand!
* Katext ko si Justin (Guce, my bio co-teacher) on the way home. Kinukulit niya ko na nabalitaan daw niyang hinimatay ako (the day before kasi humirit ako sa bio na walang tatawa pag naiyak ako pag nakita ko si Elliott). Sabi ko hindi ako hinimatay no! Namatay ako!
* Elliott uttered a couple of Filipino phrases during the gig - "Mabuhay!", "Mahal ko kayo!", and "Salamat!" And although I hardly understood them, it endeared him to me all over again.
* All of this madness is thanks to my bio co-teachers Ninna and Menggai. It was them that first pointed out that this Elliott Yamin guy on American Idol Season 5 was so good. I was rooting for Chris Daughtry, but I did notice that Elliott was good. But I really started paying attention to E when they mentioned him. Since then, we've been gushing over him, bad teeth and weird hair and shameless onscreen tears and heartfelt love for his mom and wonderful wonderful voice and all.
* I was looking at my meet-and-greet picture with Elliott and realized that us four gals were all Pisay ('98 and '01). Naisip ko tuloy, kung ang Pinoy na fan ni Elliott ay tinatawag na Yaminoy, ano kayang pwedeng itawag sa Pisay na fan ni Elliott? And the word that came up was - Pisayamin. Ew, ampanget.

Elliottness
Ayayay. It's starting. As I count down the days to Elliott's Manila visit, I find myself becoming more restless, and more obsessed with anything Elliott
I was only able to find three of his songs (Movin' On, Wait for You, You Are the One) on Limewire, so those three songs have been playing for a couple of hours now. I've fallen in love with You Are the One already. Really really really can't wait to get my hands on his album! Soon na, please!
Ang sarap nga ngayon mamasyal sa Ayala Malls eh. Everywhere you turn, Elliott is waiting there for you
Tarps in and out of the mall, and the gigantic tarp at the Glorietta Activity Center. May ganun din sa TriNoma pero sa pictures ko lang nakita.
The Yaminoys are all abuzz as well, making some last-minute preparations for Elliott's visit. Wish I could help out, too, pero di kaya ng sked eh. Naexcite din ako lalo nung pinost sa Yaminoys na ang default picture ni Elliott sa MySpace ay picture ng kanyang billboard sa C5. I haven't seen that yet, but I see the EDSA billboard on a daily basis. I even pick my seat on the MRT such that I'll have a nice view of Elliott on the way to and from work
Yes, Elliott! Manila eagerly awaits you! So game, come here now na!

Waiting for Elliott...
Wait For You
I never felt nothing in the world like this before
Now I'm missing you and I'm wishing you would come back through my door
Why did you have to go?
You could have let me know
so now I'm all alone
Girl you could have stayed but you wouldn't give me a chance
With you not around it's a little bit more than I can stand
And all my tears they keep runnin' down my face
Why did you turn away?
So why does your pride make you run and hide
Are you that afraid of me?
But I know it's a lie what you keep inside
This is not how you want it to be
So baby I will wait for you
Cause I don't know what else I can do
Don't tell me I ran out of time
If it takes the rest of my life
Baby I will wait for you
If you think I'm fine it just ain't true
I really need you in my life
No matter what I have to do
I'll wait for you
Been a long time since you called me
(How could you forget about me)
You gotta be feeling crazy
How can you walk away
(When) Everything stays the same
I just can't do it baby
What will it take to make you come back
Girl I told you what it is and it just ain't like that
Why can't you look at me?
You're still in love with me
Don't leave me crying
Baby why can't we just start all over again
Get it back to the way it was
If you give me a chance I can love you right
But you're telling me it won't be enough
So baby I will wait for you
Cause I don't know what else I can do
Don't tell me I ran out of time
If it takes the rest of my life
Baby I will wait for you
If you think I'm fine it just ain't true

Akala ko Ayala Center Cebu lang ata ang hindi ko mapupuntahan nito, hehehe =) However, it's my best friend's wedding on the 28th so I'd have to miss the ATC show, too. Quite a bummer, but it's a good thing there are other shows :)
I was giddy and super excited when I saw this on his thread over at Peyups.com. God knows that I've been waiting for his album on local shores for the longest time. I never expected a LOCAL TOUR!!! Woohoo! I checked out Elliott's MySpace, and it seems that we are the only Asian destination so far on the list. Panalo talaga ang Ayala Malls!
Here are some of my favorite Elliott vids from YouTube:
Wait For You (Official Music Video)
A Song For You (Live & Acoustic) - He's singing this song for y'all ;)
