What is a supernova?
Tommy Lee (of Motley Crue and Pamela Anderson fame) kinda mentioned "Supernova", the name of his new supergroup, as being "the clash of stars". The band consists of Tommy on drums, Gilby Clarke (formerly GNR) on guitars, Jason Newsted (formerly Metallica) on bass, and one of the 15 Rockers on vocals.
I looked up the definition of supernova, and was quite surprised that they chose that word as the name of the band.
The death explosion of a massive star, resulting in a sharp increase in brightness followed by a gradual fading.
Supernova refers to several types of stellar explosions that produce extremely bright objects that decline to invisibility over weeks or months.
These definitions refer to an astronomical event, but in relation to this new band searching for their vocalist, the choice of name kinda seems off. True, it IS a supergroup, so Supernova as a "clash of stars" seems fit indeed. But seeing that a supernova actually ends by gradually fading or declining to invisibility, it may seem that this new band isn't gonna last for long, hehehe. Though that may be true anyway, since what is for sure is that once a vocalist completes the lineup, the band will release an album and get on a world tour. After that, it's up to them I guess if they'll push on with the Supernova adventure.
I looked up Merriam Webster's definition, too, and it kinda cleared things up for me:
Main Entry: su·per·no·va
Etymology: New Latin
1 : the explosion of a star in which the star may reach a maximum intrinsic luminosity one billion times that of the sun
2 : one that explodes into prominence or popularity; also : SUPERSTAR
Aaaaah, SUPERSTAR naman pala eh. Hehehe. O sige na nga. Supernova it is.
