Gig pics Aug2003-May2005

Ok, I'ma make this short and sweet, 'cause I really gotta get me some sleep - trabaho na ulit bukas! =P

So yun, I've migrated all my gig pics from my Yahoo Photos account to my Multiply page:
http://mightydacs98.multiply.com

Everything's there: from the very first Admit One at RRC (Aug '03) to my latest gig at Glorietta where Orange and Lemons performed at the Netopia Cyberleague Finals. Go check it out =)

Oh, and yeah, leave me a message so I'd know you dropped by!

Bandcrazy: Sugar Hiccup, Barbie's Cradle, Bridge, Daydreamcycle

Mukhang uso ngayon ang return of the comeback ah...

There's the Juan de la Cruz band, which is having a reunion concert at the World Trade Center on 11 June 2005 (baka mali details ko, check niyo nalang; tickets available narin!).

And then Datu's Tribe has also been gigging again lately (wanna check out these guys now! never got the chance to see them during the 90's). So has The Youth, and they're also coming up with a new album!

And another group from my highschool days has just reformed. Check them out: http://www.whoissugarhiccup.com

Yeah I heard through the grapevine she gave notice to Artistation already and is just finishing up gig committments for BC. The new manager is supposed to be Roca Cruz, who handles Kitchie. In the meantime, the 3 guys in Barbie's Cradle are sticking together looking for a vocalist... or so my source says. Should be an interesting next few weeks if it all pans out.

Hmmm, didn't even know may dumagdag na pala sa three-piece ng BC, hehehe. Tas ngayon magdidisband narin pala. Obviously they won't be keeping the name "Barbie's Cradle" hehehe.

10 reasons why I'm officially broke

Summer splurging.
(Not really reviews. Mga hirit-hirit ko lang about my recent music purchases.)

- - - - -

Narda's Formika - nice. My first time to listen to this band. Kahilo lang basahin yung inlay hehe.

Orange and Lemons' Strike Whilst the Iron Is Hot - ang gandaaa! I'm really loving these guys. And they're all over the record stores (posters and stuff!). Great thing Universal Records signed them. Way to go OnL!

Hale's Hale - another good buy. Dati ko pa inaabangan 'to. Didn't disappoint me, but of course there's a lot of room for improvement. I just don't like their latest video...

Saydie's Saydie - nadale na naman ako ng "dark and mysterious", same as when I bought The Late Isabel's Doll's Head. Somehow, di ko sila nagustuhan. Maybe a couple more spins...

I definitely like the released singles. Haven't given much thought yet though to the unreleased tracks. Kelangan ko pa ulit pakinggan.

Romancing Venus - poetry set to music. Really sorry but I forgot who the poet was (CD's upstairs, tinatamad akong silipin hehe). Ok pakinggan when you're just lying in your room and doing nothing else. Just relish the words and the music.

Wolfmann's Breaking the Beat Project - the first album. Astig! I'm just a casual electronica fan, but Wolfmann's music (along w/ other great lokal electronica acts - Squid9, Morse, Drip) helps me appreciate this genre more than I normally would. (Di 'to kasama sa 10 reasons kasi libre lang 'to ni Wolf mismo hehehe)

Drip's Far Side of the World - was looking for this sa OPM section ng Tower. Couldn't find it so I asked a Tower person. Buti tinanong ko, nasa electronica pala. Liked what I heard, but realized also that Beng tends to have a limited vocal style. Nevertheless, maganda siya. Yung album, I mean. At si Beng narin, hehehe.

Jojo's Jojo - hahaha, my guilty pleasure *sheepish grin* Siya pala nagremake ng "Weak" by SWV. Not much different from the original, but then classic yang Weak na yan so mas gusto ko parin yung SWV version. This gal's really talented and really pretty. Not to mention really young too.

Bridge's Love from Lust (the Album) - Haven't gotten around to listening to this one, hehehe. Based on the EP of the same title, though, I'd say this'll be more great stuff from Bridge.

And my current favorite new album:

Pedicab's Tugish Takish - I haven't watched these guys yet, and I've only heard "Dizzy Boy" on NU in a half-asleep state, so my true first experience of this band was the CD. Tagal na kasing sinabing released na siya (last week pa ata), and a lot of listers were hounding Tower/M1 for this. Unfortunately, Tower/M1 is, like, so slow. Malas nalang nila, the first purchases of this awesome album were made at Odyssey, starting Monday (05/16/05) ata. You folks better grab this CD, astig siya sobra! (May videos pang kasama, though I haven't seen them yet hehe)

- - - - -

There. I am now officially broke. Ayuz.

P.S. On Tower Records' Top 25:
#12 - OnL's Strike Whilst the Iron is Hot
#11 - Imago's Take Two
#2 - Hale's Hale =)

Ito ang araw ng sablay

I think this'll be my first rant-AND-rave post, hehehe. Mahaba. Proceed as you wish.

- - - - -

My SIM's currently blocked, so don't waste your load calling or texting me >=P The PUK doesn't wanna work either, so I'll try having the sim unblocked tomorrow at a Globe Business Center. Sana gumana. Don't wanna change numbers naaa! Anyways...

- - - - -

Ang malas ng mobile-phone-life ko for the past 2 weeks. First, I switch to a Motorola E398. As I transferred the contacts from the old Nokia to the E398, I obliterate a big big chunk of my phonebook. Goodbye contacts.

Then, the phone seems to have signal problems, so I have it checked sa service center and it stays there for almost two weeks. When I get it back, ok naman siya. But when I get home, wala na namang signal! Pasok na naman sa service center.

After 3 days, they tell me the phone didn't have any signal problems whatsoever. So I get it back and come to the conclusion that it just doesn't like my house. Hehehe. Oh well.

And now that I have the E398 back, SIM KO NAMAN ANG NAWALA!!! Aaaaargh! Bwiset =( Excited pa naman akong magamit, as in MAGAMIT (personalize it and sh*t), yung E398. Langya.

- - - - -

From phones to busses: WHAT'S UP WITH AIRCONDITIONED SUCAT BUSSES?! Have they been exiled to some distant galaxy?! Grabe, wasted one hour of my life at Philcoa waiting for a Sucat bus to arrive. Drew experienced the same thing (more than an hour pa siya naghintay!) last Sunday. - and yes, a couple of SUCAT busses, but not airconditioned! After about 60 minutes of standing up ALONE by the gas station, I decided to just go take the MRT to Ayala and wait for a Sucat bus there. Bwiseeeeet.

Got to Ayala, had balot merienda, then went down to wait for a Sucat bus. After 10 minutes, decided to take an Alabang bus nalang. Wala nakong patience maghintay pa ng Sucat. Should've just taken an Alabang bus from Philcoa then! Pero oks lang, saw from the MRT the horrific EDSA southbound traffic so medyo ok lang.

- - - - -

Ok, so it's not all sablay today. Couple of happy thoughts...

- - - - -

While waiting at the Globe Business Center kanina, I saw a gradeschool classmate of mine - Jennifer Vicente. Wasn't sure if she remembered me, and I wasn't in chika mode either so I just decided to not greet her. La lang, natuwa lang ko to see Jenny. She was one of the reasons I picked up the guitar back in 7th grade (she was the only girl I knew who played guitar nung grade school). The main reason though was my crush back then - ang galing kasi niya mag-gitara, nainspire tuloy akong matuto (I never did get far though, hehehe). Also thus began my romance with rock n' roll.

- - - - -

Speaking of when I first met rock n' roll...

"Believe" by Dig was played on NU couple of days ago. This, as far as I can remember, was the first ever song I heard on NU. Thus began my romance with "the station that rocks the nation..."

May senti value yang kanta na yan sa akin. Pati narin yung "Stars" by Hum, which was also on NU not too far back. Highschool pare.

- - - - -

And speaking of highschool...

Pisay98 folks! Naaalala niyo yung anak ni Ma'am Cion? Si Lara - that chubby little bungi kid running around Pisay before? My gulay! She's all grown up and dalaga now! And she's entering Pisay as an alternate sophomore! Langhiya, baka maging studyante ko pa! Hahaha!

Damn, we're OLD.

University grad speeches oughtta be like this all the time. Then I wouldn't mind sitting out 4+ hours at the University Amphitheater.

- - - - -

Ryan Cayabyab, Guest Speaker
94th General Commencement Exercises
April 24, UP Diliman
Source: http://www.upd.edu.ph/%7Eupdinfo/Pagtatapos05/Cspeech.htm

UP President, Emerlinda Roman, former presidents Jose Abueva and Noel Soriano, UP Diliman Chancellor, Dr. Sergio Cao, the Board of Regents, U.P. Faculty and administrative staff, co-professors from the College of Music, classmates from UP High 1970, fellow alumni, graduates, and friends:

Nagaral ako sa UP Elementary School at sa UP High School. Una akong pumasok bilang accounting major sa UP College of Business Administration. Tinanggap ako at lumipat sa UP College of Music bilang isang piano major. Mabuti naman at tinanggap ako ng Department of Composition and Theory. Sa maniwala kayo’t hindi, tinapos ko itong kurso, Bachelor of Music Major in Composition – suma – suma-sampong taon bago ko nakuha ang aking diploma. Aba! Halos dalawampung taon din ako nagturo sa UP College of Music.

Gayon pa man, kasaysayan pa rin.

My baby's back =)

Ain't my baby pretty?

My baby's home (actually matagal na)! *insert big happy smile*

Asti came home after two days at the vet. She's quite ok now, she just can't use her left leg properly (pilay). The vet says a couple of things could've been wrong with her: arthritis, naipit na nerve, calcium deficiency. So now she's taking a handful of pills for these things. And she's learning how to balance with just one fully-functional hindleg (nadudulas nga lang siya sa marble floor).

Man, my baby's *old*. The doc says each dog year is equal to 7 human years. So I actually have a 63-year-old baby! :O

And one more thing - Asti has to lose weight, hehehe. She weighed in at 9lbs, and for a dog her size (toy poodle), dapat daw mga 8lbs or less lang daw, hahaha! Well, the perils of living in our house - everybody needs to diet, even our dog :P If Asti loses some weight, at least hindi mahihirapan yung legs niya.

I'm just glad my baby's back =)

A belated Happy Mom's Day!

Amor and her bunso. Amor is a friend I met during my tambay days at the CASAA steps in UP Diliman (circa 1998 onwards). She's been selling ponytails (scoongy, or however you spell that) ever since I can remember.

Motherhood, in itself, is a tough job. What more if you have to face it without a partner in life. What more if you're just a child yourself, barely out of high school. What more if your job gave you just enough to get by everyday - and that was before your child was born.

Life can be tough on people. Life can be tough on mothers. But there are those that will themselves to be strong for their children.

This is a salute to all the mothers in the world. May you be blessed a hundredfold for all the sacrifices and heartaches that you've gone through.

Most especially to my mom and my lola, who chose to be my mothers. They truly are God's gifts to me.

here are the top 5 showband boo boo's in announcing our band's name...

ladies and gentlemen please welcome:

4. The Orange and Lemon Band

Yum yum

Hmmm, interesting finds in our food...

Man says he found severed finger in his custard
Boy finds snake in cereal

Sheesh, what next?!

Missing my baby badly

I feel like a big chunk of my life is missing. And indeed, it is.

Asti loves posing for my camera. This shot was taken sometime 2003.

Asti, my 9-year-old toy poodle, is staying at the vet for 3 days :( Last night, she seemed terribly sick. She couldn't sleep because of the discomfort she felt, and I couldn't sleep because I was deeply worried about my baby.

So I brought her to the vet first thing in the morning, and it broke my heart to know that she'd have to be confined and observed for 3 days while they try to figure out what's wrong with her.

Soon as I left the clinic, I missed her terribly already. Good thing they've got visiting hours, 11am-7pm.

Got home this evening a bit past 7, just after visiting Asti at the clinic. She looked better than she did this morning. I just hope they find out what we can do to make her better.

Asti taking a nap in the 'attic', sometime 2003

I want her back in my house, where she welcomes me when I get home. She'd wag her tail as I enter the door, then wait for me to plop on the couch. She'd climb right up and lay her head on my lap, waiting for me to pet her.

On days when she was newly-bathed, she'd wait for me to come home, then show off her soft and fragrant self - as in hindi pwedeng hindi mo siya pansinin or else she'll hound you like crazy.

I also love the way she makes a point. Like when I'd ask her to leave my room, I'd open the door then tell her to go out. If she doesn't feel like leaving, she'd promptly sit down and look at me as if to say, "I'm keeping my butt right here and you can't make me do otherwise."

Man, doing this entry makes me miss her more. I think I better stop. Anyway, I can go visit her again tomorrow...

Miss you na Asti! Hope you can come home soon.

Ang aking Hari ng Sablay

My very own Hari ng Sablay =)

My Andrew's done with college, and he finally got to don that piece of cloth known to UP grads as the Sablay. He got so fond of it, he was still wearing it to the family lunch after the grad ceremonies *rolls eyes*

Next stop...the Academe! Hehe, educ grad siya so he's into teaching too. Math nga lang siya, ako naman Bio.

Congratulations Drew! Sana ma-enjoy mo first job mo. Ayan, may pang-date na tayo, hahaha! ;P
