Soundtripping

Last for tonight :P

Just forgot to mention these in my previous post.

Currently tripping on:

Rockstar:INXS - A Night at the Mayan Theater
The Rockstar:INXS CD - a recording of the 15 rockers' first performances. Notable tracks include Jordis' Baba O' Riley, Deanna's Piece of My Heart, and Suzie's Remedy (even if she forgot the lyrics). Bonus tracks include Jordis' moving Man Who Sold the World, and MiG's exceptional Baby I Love Your Way.

Killer Queen - A Tribute to Queen
Ok, I bought this when Constantine was in town. So sue me :D Reviews on Amazon.com aren't great, as most of the artists apparently ventured very far from the originals. I can't really tell 'cause, apart from Bohemian Rhapsody, We Are The Champions, and the more popular Queen songs, I don't really know much about them :D

Fuseboxx
I finally got my hands on Fuseboxx's self-titled, long-overdue, debut album. These 2003 Redhorse Muziklaban champs really got it going in the prog rock department! Astig isipin na kaya rin ito ng Pinoy. Coolness.

Urbandub - Embrace
Urbandub's 3rd offering is already in the record stores. Go get it!!! Here's what music critic Cris Ramos has to say about the album:

Listening to the tracks from Urbandub’s upcoming album Embrace, it’s apparent that they took the issues “of selling out” and “moving out of the indies to join the majors” issue real seriously. Be prepared to be disappointed if you’re: a). close-minded and b). expecting Influence part deux. (Read more...)

As for me, I crush Gabby pa rin hehehe :P

UP kong mahal

3rd post for tonight. Man, I've been away from this for too long :P

And I'm blogging now about the reason for my absence.

For the past week, I've spent 6pm to 9pm at the Ateneo for my classes in Environmental Standards and Technologies. La namang problema dun, although from Tuesday to Friday I also had to attend the GLOBE teacher training program in Pisay/Manila Bay so pagdating sa gabi medyo pagod na hehe. Buti nalang kadamay ko diyan si Mel (Pisay '94) and Ame (Pisay '96), my co-teachers and Ateneo classmates.

Anyways, so there, miss ko tuloy Ateneo classmates ko kasi I've been seeing them daily from Monday to Saturday of the previous week. Ngayon we're back to our regular sked of Saturday classes - Environmental Risk Assessment pag 9am-12nn, then Standards at 1-4pm.

Last sem's EM240 class (well, most of us, at least).

Problema sa whole day Saturday classes is that lately laging may kasabay. Nov 19 and Dec 3, make-up classes sa Pisay. Dec 10, seminar ko sa UP. Dec 17, kasal nina Ramil and Andrea. Hehehe. Marami-raming absent na 'to ah.

- - - - -

There are a lot of things I like about studying in Ateneo.

Great facilities, safe environment, buildings not far apart, lots of good-looking people. I get to see a lot of musicians - and that's a nice trip for me since I'm a self-confessed rocker-stalker, right? So far I've seen Yael of Spongecola, Tedmark of Happymeals, Yan of Pupil, Bryan(?) of Dicta License, and Kelley of Kjwan/Dicta License. Some sa campus ko mismo nakita, yung iba sa Starbucks Katips, which is a cool place to hangout, especially if you've got work to cram hehehe.

Latte and ferns

And yet...

My home is still the University of the Philippines :) Nuthin would beat the 5 years (hehe, may extrang isa :D ) I spent there as an undegrad.

So many memories. The jampacked classrooms. The vandalized bathroom walls. The ubiquitous fishball stands. The ancient laboratories. The phychem lessons I just don't get. Having picnics beside the track oval. Tambay on the CASAA steps the whole day. Hanging out with ZS or MBBS friends. Getting senti in the Sunken Garden. Bonding with friends in nearby watering holes (hehe). The unforgettable UP Fairs.

- - - - -

Ateneo's a great school (expensive though the tuition may be), but I don't get that homey feeling that I experienced in UP.

I remember the Saturday I found out that Wolfmann was in a coma. That was in the middle of my group's report sa Ateneo. I got a text from Belle saying she heard the news on NU. I walked out of the room to call Klara and Vin to confirm the news. Til now, I associate those 2nd floor walkways with the sadness of that news.

After lunch with my classmates, I hitched with LT to UP and spent some moments alone on the CASAA steps to digest reality. Somehow, the place provided me with the comfort I was looking for.

That's UP for me. She's beautiful in moments of either joy or sadness.

UP the best. UP astig! :)

Constantine and marriage

Just finishin Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps" before I start this post. Hehehe, I definitely dig that vid. Sabi nga ni Andrew, kala niya some cheapipay novelty group yung kumanta - BEP pala. Only they could get away with sumthin like that :P

- - - - -

Ok, so I'm devoting a bit more time for longer posts. Btw, did I catch yer attention with this entry's title? Hehehe...

- - - - -

A long time ago (hehe), I got to watch Constantine at the Alabang Town Center. I'm no Connie fan, but I do admit it was entertaining to watch the guy - he does know how to work the crowd. I situated myself at the 3rd floor since I arrived late so wala nang space sa 1st and 2nd floors. Buti nalang kasi sa 3rd floor service elevator siya dumaan before going to the Activity Center downstairs so I got to take a good pic of him arriving at ATC.

He performed a good lot of songs, most of which he performed on AI. He even danced with a gal onstage during one of the songs - turns out it was Arnee Hidalgo. Hehehe, di ko nakilala from the 3rd floor. No wonder Jeffrey Hidalgo was there during the autograph signing session.

That evening Stalker Mode was definitely on. Just before Constantine was about to leave ATC, I thought about where his exit point would be, and so I headed for the mall entrance near Philux. Right enough, Constantine's van was already waiting there. So I positioned myself to get another good pic just a few seconds before I saw him walking towards the exit, followed by a crowd of security folks and giggling gals.

As Constantine passed by, he flashed a peace sign and posed for my waiting camera. Alas, my finger didn't get to push the shutter button, so no pic for me. Dang. Nagpose pa man din siya. Pffft.

Wow, this is the first time a wedding invite is actually addressed to ME (and Andrew), and not to my family tapos tag-along lang ako.

My friends and batchmates Ramil and Andrea (congrats, you two!!!) are getting married on December 17 (the 4th Pisay '98 couple to tie the knot, tama ba?), so Drew and I went to Rustan's ATC to check out their Bridal Registry.

Along the way, we bump into Faye, who has a little surprise of her own for us. Hoy bruha, I am so very happy for you *hug*

When Drew and I get to Rustan's, we see another surprise. Lying there on one of the tables was the Bridal Registry of Manuel Legarda and his wife (they just got married over the weekend)! Hehe, yep, nakakakalat lang dun yung printout ng registry nila. Drew and I had half the mind to just pocket the darn paper hahaha. Big Wolfgang fans, you see.

Oh man...there goes that line again - "Oh my gosh, tumatanda na tayo!" It was kinda surreal for Drew and I to check out a bridal registry, LOL :P

And, although I know it's bad, I always get kinda jealous when couples who have been together for a shorter time compared to Drew and I get married. Hehehe. Kung hindi lang siguro mahal magpakasal...

Express blogging

Tidbits on my mind - stuff I've gone through/encountered these past few toxic days.

- - - - -

In the news:

It won't be Van Halen for the next Rockstar reality show.
Kinasal na pala si Christina Aguilera.
Pat Morita (Karate Kid's Mr. Miyagi) has died.
Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson call it quits.

- - - - -
Music updates:

Kelly Clarkson's "Because of You" (lyrics) is such a beautifully painful song.

Nakita ko na yung Switch album (listen to samplers here) ng INXS sa Tower Records. It kinda hurt to see JD there instead of Marty or MiG. Pero bagay nga siya sa INXS. Saw the vid too - "Pretty Vegas" is indeed a cool song, nasty though its history may be :P

From Peyups.com:

- - - - -

Happy birthday ADMIT ONE!

Happy birthday WOLFMANN!

Yup, Admit One and Wolfmann are celebrating their birthdays this November.

Part 1 of Admit One's FOURTH ANNIVERSARY celebration is a joint event with other production outfits, to be held at Racks, El Pueblo this Saturday, November 19. The event is also the celebration of the late Wolfmann's 29th birthday, so join na kayo sa pa-party ng mga kaibigan ni Wolf! Masaya 'to sigurado, just check out the list of bands!

And next Saturday (11/26/05), Part 2 of Admit One's Fourth Anniversary celebration will be at Saguijo, Makati.

I don't think I can make it on the 19th though. Sana sa 26 makapunta ako :)

Toxic na 'to

Oh wow, things are getting hectic (and here I am blogging). Can't wait 'til Christmas vacation.

- - - - -

My crushes in the news:

Joaquin Phoenix as Johnny Cash
Matthew McConaughey as People Mag's Sexiest Man Alive (2005)

- - - - -

Ansaya nung Tagaytay weekend ko with my coursemates sa Ateneo! Got to spend last weekend with the MEMsters (Masters in Environmental Management) at Cellar Mansions in Tagaytay. Got to meet folks from earlier batches, and got to spend time with the Batch 4 peeps (my batch). Isang gabing puro kain, kanta, at kwento. At mumu. Hehe, sabi nila. Pero wala naman akong nakita ;)

With MEMfolks naman sa Viewsite (ulit!), Tagaytay.

- - - - -

As I said, it's gonna be hectic from now on. Every Saturday hereon will be spent at Ateneo for my masters classes (9am-4pm). Kaya yung mga make-up classes sa Pisay na Sabado ay Long Test nalang para sa mga students ko, hehehe :D And maybe for the next 3 Sundays (SANA!), I'll still be in Pisay to watch my batchmates try to finally get that Championship title for the Pisay Alumni Basketball League *cross fingers*

Next week alone is HELL WEEK. Four whole days training for the GLOBE Program (so I won't get to meet my students), and then 6-9pm classes at the Ateneo. Ayuz.

And we've only got 2 weeks left to finish the coverage for the 3rd quarter. Sabi nga nung mga bata info overload na raw sila. Hehehe.

Will be attending the PSBMB convention to be held at the Ateneo on Dec 1-2. At pag natapos na ang classes sa Pisay, I'm pretty sure may mga requirements to submit sa Masters. Plus that workshop I'll be conducting for BIOTA sa UP mga 2nd week December.

Winner.

Who's complaining? Not me ;)

Sana lang maka-gig parin ako, especially sa 19th or 26th, kasi celebration ng 4th anniv ng pinakamamahal kong prod - ADMIT ONE. Or maybe the NU Rock Awards on Dec 2 - pero may klase kinabukasan. Pati rin ba yung MTV HIV/AIDS summit? Kakanta daw dun si MiG Ayesa eh, hehehe. Nah, too many people to deal with - not my type of gig.

Sana naman di ako magkasakit sa lahat ng ito :P

Gusto ko tuloy bumalik ng Tagaytay. Or maybe go to Baguio (I miss Baguio!). Or pwede narin sa beach. Basta getaway, hehehe.

- - - - -

Almost got to see Constantine kanina sa Greenbelt. Met up with my parents and sis after my rents watched Goblet of Fire (which I haven't seen yet!) then had dinner sa Greenbelt 3. Kaso we were done na by 7:45 (8 darating si Constantine) so umuwi na kami.

Planning to go to ATC nalang tomorrow. Sana di ako tamarin hehe.

Matagal mo nang mundo

Performed by Bayang Barrios
Music, Lyrics, Guitars, & Arrangement by Mike Villegas

sa dinami-daming mararanasan
ito na nga at nakilala ka
sa lahat ng oras maaasahan
hinahanap-hanap ka na

langit ang lupa
at may bago nang bango
[uro awit at saya
ang natagpuang mundo

hindi ako nasanay
maging palangiti
at malumanay sa
kaygandang daigdig
salamat bagong gising ako
sa matagal mo nang mundo
sa matagal mo nang mundo

sa lahat ng sulok
ng kalawakan
dito pa ako napadpad
wala nang ingay at kahirapan
mga pangarap ko'y matutupad

langit ang lupa
at may bago nang bango
puro awit at saya
ang natagpuang mundo

- - - - -

Buy Bayang Barrios' ALON album! It's worth every single centavo you'll shell out for it.

I especially like this song kasi ang ganda ng pagkaawit ni Bayang, tapos husband pa niya yung nagsulat ng kanta. Awww.

The sembreak that was

Ngayon palang ako magbblog about my sembreak :P

Monday
Watched The Legend of Zorro with Andrew. Ang cuuute nung little kid!!!

Tuesday

Bummed at home.

Wednesday
Visited the cemetery with the extended family. Got to visit Lolo, Uncle Dickie, and Wolfmann. Even saw Wolf's parents when we arrived, pero la na sila dun nung pinuntahan ko na mismo yung grave.

The view from Lolo's grave. Wolf's is somewhere just beyond those trees.

Thursday, Friday
Spent some time with the Bio Unit peeps for some planning sessions in Los Baños. Stayed in this medyo old house with some sort of balcony sa second floor. Was up at 3am Friday, couldn't sleep anymore. By 4:30am, tumambay nalang ko sa balcony listening to my CDs.

Ngayon tuloy, the vision in my head everytime I listen to Cynthia Alexander's Comet's Tail CD is that of the dawn sky slowly getting lighter as the day approached. Sayang nga di ko nakita sunrise kasi umulan at around 5:30am hehe. Nevertheless, the view plus Cynthia's music was something so beautiful I don't think I'll forget that ever.

Diyan ako sa ilalim ng arch na yan nagsenti on a Friday morning.

Friday
Left Los Banos with the Bio peeps at around 11:30am, only to return to the South (Tagaytay this time) a few hours after to have a late lunch at Viewsite with my family.

Ang view sa Viewsite, Tagaytay.

Saturday
Attended Andrew's oathtaking as a Licensure Exam for Teachers passer. And since he was Top8, may awarding chuva pa onstage hehe. Nakita pa namin si Manuel Legarda (Wolfgang) before we entered the Cuneta Astrodome! Turns out his sis was also a LET passer.

My guy in the peach polo.

Sunday
Back in Tagaytay to spend time with my family and my sister's family. Tinulugan ko lang sila hehehe.

The view on the way home.

- - - - -

So now, balik-eskwela na naman. Most of the remaining Saturdays my 2005 are taken, either by Pisay or by Ateneo :(

Sana maka-gig naman ako kahit papaano. Admit One's celebrating its 4th Anniv! Part 1 sa Racks, El Pueblo on Nov19, Part 2 sa saGuijo on Nov26. Party na 'to!

Eraserheads Tribute Album!

I'm very much excited for this one. Sony-BMG and Jam88.3 have joined forces to bring us a tribute album to the Eraserheads. Not sure if it's out na, but the songs have been playing on Jam already.

Sa nasagap ko, here are some of the stuff na kasama sa album:

With A Smile - South Border
Ligaya - Kitchie Nadal
Overdrive - Barbie Almalbis
Huwag Mo Ng Itanong - MYMP
Magasin - Paolo Santos
Alcohol - Radio Active Sago Project
Torpedo - Isha
Spoliarium - Imago
Hard To Believe - Cueshe
Maling Akala - Brownman Revival
Superproxy - FrancisM
Alapaap - 6Cyclemind
Pare ko - Sponge Cola
Ang Huling El Bimbo - Rico J. Puno
Tikman - Sugarfree
Huwag Kang Matakot - Orange & Lemons
Para Sa Masa - All Star

- - - - -

Been able to watch MYX and MTV more often ulit. Natutuwa ako sa mga lokal vids na napapanood ko, such as:

chubibo's patawad
parokya ni edgar's mang jose
mojofly's tumatakbo
sheila and the insects's quick to panic
imago's anino
sandwich's masilungan
brownman revival's lintik
sugarfree's tulog na

Hehe, katuwa yung Lintik ng BMR, katuloy ng Maling Akala vid. Pero may napansin akong glitch. Sa Maling Akala, nakahubad yung girl under her robe. Pero sa Lintik, may suot na siyang black spaghetti strap vest(?) under the robe. Hehehe.

Kinikilabutan parin ako pagdumarating sa part na yung boses ni Dino mapapalitan ng boses ni Ely.

Vote sana natin 'tong mga vids na 'to so they could chart higher and thus get more exposure ;)

Asti's garden

I dreamed of Asti last night (actually morning na ata nun). I was aware that she had died, but I wasn't aware I was dreaming. I was just happy that I got to hug her one last time.

This was a pic I took of her last February 2004. This place at the back of our house is now known as Asti's garden, because that's the final resting place of her ashes (yep, we had her cremated). The burial was quite sad, but gave us some closure. We even threw pieces of Blue Skies crackers (her ultimate favorite) into her grave, much like us humans would throw flowers into a loved one's grave.

I miss her the most at night. She was my constant companion around the house. Wala nakong pinanggigigilan at kinukulit pag bored ako.
